Mike, that's actual USPS cost. If you order 2-4lbs, I'll put it in a USPS box for only $10.35. It's much more economical. But 2 lbs, throw 1 in the freezer, and you'll be just fine. And don't worry about not liking it, this thread should be evidence enough.

No ****, they drink tea, huh? Never really thought about it. Cool! So drink tea, preferably with rancid yaks milk!

Where are you? why are you there? Any visits to the Hindu Kush planned?

.
i'm in karachi, hadnt visited the grandparents or extended family in over 6 yrs. Made a very last minute trip out here while ticket prices were cheap. No visits anywhere unfortunately, the security risk is too great (btw i think a security firm like black water would mint money out here). Lots of kidnappings / violence threats, not to mention terrorist activities out here as well.

yep tea is the drink of choice here. hehe no yaks milk, fresh milk is buffalo. I have yet to see goats milk, though i know it exists with all the random goats i see with swollen mammary glands. Cows milk is available in UHT tetrapacks.

Man, I'm jealous! I'd love to visit, though someone would probably want to Pearlize my head. So the danger is high even for you?

Next time you go, hit me up, and take some coffee with you. I've wanted to put up a page on my site with pics of my coffee around the world, and Pakistan would be an awesome addition (it's in Iraq, Afganistan, Paraguay, Panama, Israel, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, and probably more i can't remember).

Got it. How long does it take to roast and ship once you get an order? (I'm going away in a week for a 4-day trip and don't want it just sitting around)

If you order now, it'd go out today, as I'm roasting now.
(as long as it's not Yemen, which is coming in today or tomorrow). you'd have it by Monday, Tues at the latest. It's 2 day priority USPS.

YEMEN IS HERE!
And I'm still not disappointed by Poison's beans.
This stuff is something else! VERY strong, very bold flavor. Very apparent nutty flavors. I love it, haven't had a caffeine buzz this strong in a while! Definitely stronger than the amaro gayo, (which I thoroughly enjoyed).

Oh, yeah, the Yemen has more caffeine, no doubt.

I wasn't sure if it was just a psychosomatic effect, or if the beans actually did contain more caffeine. Good to know I'm starting to key in on subtle differences! Thanks again for the fast roast and shipment, as always.

The Yemen is a lighter roast, which keeps more caffeine intact, but the beans are higher caffeine overall, anyway. Also, they get better up until 7-10 days, more rest is better. You'll get more subtlety out of them around a week out.

def. will do. Ill be honest visiting this place wont get you much unfortunately.. its a bit of a let down. its such a rat race / struggle to survive here that any beauty this place might have had is ruined. There use to be hiking tours into the karakorams / hindu kush but not sure if they are still offered because of the taliban infiltration.

Youth's and people that have some semblance of money (we are middle class here) are generally under threat of being kidnapped for money. I've already been carjacked--almost kidnapped once back when i was 12. Taking trips out of relatively safe areas, out to the country is dangerous for that reason. In addition you are always under threat of terrorist violence within cities themselves (bomb blasts, shootouts etc). Currently schools have laid sandbag walls, recruited security personnel and have positioned snipers on rooftops to prevent any sort of attacks that would result in students being held hostage.

Areas that are further west (into balochistan) and up north (into NWFP and north of the murree hills) is mostly taliban controlled, so you face that danger.

Though a friend is trying to convince me and a few others to visit in March to do a hunting / hiking trip.

and back to coffee. All i can drink is nescafe... which btw does make an awesome cappucino with boiled milk.

Take 2 tablespoon instant coffee, 1-2 tablespoon (to taste) sugar. Add 1 tablespoon of water and begin mixing, after mixing for about 1 min a paste should form. If it doesnt add another tablespoon of water. Begin mixing and then beating. A very thick paste should form which should take the consistency of very heavy glue. Add hot, boiled milk to this mixture and stir. You end up with a very milky coffee drink with a nice 1/2 inch layer of foam.

Interesting post for sure. I'm only in High school but I've been drinking coffee for about 14 years (do the math ).
I almost always make it by-the-cup with a cone+paper filter. The cone is ceramic, not some cheap plastic one. The beans come preground from Starbucks because my dad is lazy like that, but they're stored in an air-tight container. I wish we ground more often, but we don't .

Black is the only way to go for me, everything else is just sissy-coffee. I compare it to seeing guys drink fruity, colored, alcoholic drinks. Coffee is just like that.

Milk is OK, a little sugar I can understand, but cream is a no-no and fake-sweetener is too.

Awesome post. It's a crazy place, I can't imagine living under that kind of threat. Poor kids.

Israelis generally drink Turkish coffee, or 'nes', which is funny, because it's instant nescafe, but 'nes' in Hebrew means miracle as well (a cup of coffee from a taspoon of powder is a small miracle, ). anyway, they make it just like you describe, interesting.

Well, try my stuff, you'll be blown away. And you won't go back. Seriously, Starbucks Black Label coffees are my usual brew, and my outstanding coffees are simply not comparable.
