STi Engine/Tranny mount: Get 'em!
Thinking about the STi Engine/Tranny mounts? I just got them put in at RalliSpec, one of those spur of the moment buys.
Boy, you sure can feel the car idling, not exactly smooth and silky. But driving? I never realized all that sprung weight made a difference. You'll see what I mean by "sprung" when you see the original mounts, or have someone start your car while you watch with the hood up. It appears that the engine and tranny are held in with springs or rubber bands. Driving the car, it feels even more solid and tight, smoother transition into the twisties and on/off ramps. (I guess that's because the eng/trans aren't floating around in the cradle any more) I noticed that the shifts are easier and crisper, since the transmission is always in the same place also!

I hope they used either new nuts and bolts or locktite on the threads, you may want to check the connections. Mine came loose after a short time

Uh, I didn't see any locktite used. I think I'll call them tomorrow about a short follow up visit after a few miles! Thanks for the tip - that's why I love this board! |

I said it before, and I'll say it again now - This is a Man's mod. No cheese, no rice - pure steel (and rubber). It's like the car was rebuilt. SO SOLID, BROTHER!
but dude, you gotta put 'em in yourself. We're talking rite of passage, here. Character-building, even. Blood, sweat, tears, etc - not the musical act btw. I shall, from this point on, refer to STi mount-equipped Impreza drivers as "Mounties". Because the mounts are bad-ass. Long live the mounties. |

LOL! But sorry, I didn't have a shop to work in, no other choice but to have RalliSpec put them in. I guess for that I should get 1 1/2 rice kernels!
Speaking of which, shouldn't we develop a rice rating system, 1 kernel being the least rice, 10 kernels being the most! cvalle-sd, you summed it up perfectly. It really does feel like the car was rebuilt, more solid over an already solid car. NOW it feels like a rally car! Car is nice and tight, even over large bumps/potholes/railroad tracks or anything else you can imagine driving over. Now it feels ready to take off-road... |

rschwarzwalder,
Gald to hear Rallispec hooked you up. I am debating on this issue too, and after hearing your results, I may consider it. I really like a smooth idle, but I hear the bad noises from launching the car go away? Have you noticed this? I am not saying dump the clutch, but how about hard shifting? If you don't mind, can you e-mail me or post how much the cost was with install? Paul G. (we met at Carlisle and saw that accident) [This message has been edited by paultg (edited May 23, 2000).] |

Geez, like I'm going to forget you that soon! I'm old, but no sign of senility yet! (Well, depends on who you talk to. LOL)
An email is on it's way... |

rschwardwalder - if you could drop me a line with cost and installation expenses I would appreciate it. I need to get down to Rallispec one of these days and see about having them do my exhaust - perhaps the mounts at the same time?
Thanks, Pat Olsen '99 Legacy 2.5GT |

Rice = grains; corn = kernals

I did not think you would forget . I am just so confused with screen names now, because I have no idea who is who from Carlisle. No one has a screen name that reflects there name. The only person besides you is wovle80 (on his plate), and bluemousie. I have no clue on anyone else, except for Chris with the P1 and Corey with the cool hood scoop.

Uh, okay, maybe senility is kicking in: Got the grains/kernel thing mixed up! Whoops!
Screen names are tough to put with people! Patrick, I forwarded my email to Paul, sorry, kind of limited on time! |
