There was a recall for the brakes on very early builds IIRC. Not sure why though...

I'm worried about your brakes, as we seem to have all the same problems with our cars. Sucks to have the crap end of the stick, but hey- the more problems you have, the closer you may be to getting it lemoned. I mean, its already had a brake recall, more braking problems are just unacceptable imo. Its totally a driveability/safety issue. Good luck man! |

I don't have any problems with my brakes. The recall was only the master cylinder and that was remedied 1 month into the sales.
Regarding the lemon law, you need to look up the statutes, they are very specific and you need to follow the steps that are outlined. Trust me, I've been through it. |

So I finally decided to try a 0W30. Oil light just came on again after 1150 miles and I'm about 3/4 quarts low on my AMSOIL OE 0W20 (currently at 17k miles). Went to my local Walmart and picked up 6 quarts of M1 cause it was the only 0W30 available. Plan to change the oil tomorrow and run the 0W30 for 5-6k miles and check the level every 1-1.2k miles. I'll report my findings after every check. Wish me luck...

Not sure what to be more amazed about...
-- that this topic has made it above 2000 replies or -- that 79 still has his Impreza... most folks I know who are that dissatisfied with a car usually dump it and buy something else... Now I return you to the regularly scheduled discussion, lolol.... |

Mine would definitely be gone by now if I didn't have a few impossible obstacles blocking my path. As it is, it was somewhat of a miracle that I was able to get a loan for this car. Not gonna happen again, especially now that I work under-the-table and have no income on the books.

I'm not too worried about it. I highly doubt that posting here that I work (mostly) under the table is going to come back to bite me in the a$$.

I'm amazed that so many people think taking a $3000-$5000 hit for subarus mistake is such an easy thing to do.
Good luck with the w30 Jrobb! Post your findings! And to the smack-talkers and nay-sayers, I'm GLAD you're so disgusted at some of us owners being disatisfied. Your constant posts that have nothing to add do have some benefit. You're helping it grow into a giant, and making it more google-able. So thanks! Why do I still have the car? I guess I'm a lot like Nader in that I refuse to remain silent while a corporation takes advantage of me as a consumer. Subaru kept promising all kinds of things. All I got was a big giant runaround for a year. When/if something comes along that has exactly what I want in a car, maybe I'll trade. But if I "dump" this car, I've basically had a very stressful and disappointing rental car for a year. I feel like subaru should step up to the plate and make these cars right for us. Otherwise, I just gave FHI, Bill Bryan, and JP Morgan several thousand dollars to spend lots of free time at dealers and trying to work out the bugs in a lemon. If I just take the loss, what does that say for the american consumer? We aren't guaranteed a certain level of manufacturing quality and customer care from large corporations. They have to be held accountable or we just keep losing. |

Just trade it in for a WRX, maybe they'll cut you a deal and let the car be their problem. Take it to a diff dealer that may not know you.....or take it to Ford. I'd be scared and rather take the hit than the long term oil hit your going to take. Why don't you add up the money you're going to spend on oil and see where it gets you exactly ina few years and see if it's worth it.

79, I don't think you keeping the car will hold the Subaru accountable.

Well, giving in and just paying more money because of shoddy workmanship isn't going to hold them accountable.
When/if the cats and sensors start to go, I'll be getting ahold of the epa. |

Telling Grant at soa that the oil allowance was unacceptable and that as a subaru customer I'd expected better quality is all it took to get the "problem customer" treatment. |

As you know, I was dissatisfied with my treatment by my VW dealership, and then VWoA when I escalated my TDI issues. My solution was to sell an extremely well maintained and nicely configured Golf TDI, which was only 27 months old with 30k miles on it. To minimize my financial losses, I sold the car privately rather than doing a trade-in, which put an extra $6k in my pocket (the Subaru and Ford dealerships were both quoting me $16k in trade, but I sold the TDI myself for $22k). This was a difficult decision, because I really loved the TDI when it was running correctly. But after a bunch of relatively minor problems followed by a major one that left me stranded out of town for 3 days, plus reading about issues that other TDI owners were having that I hadn't even experienced yet, I just felt that I could no longer trust that TDI to get me from Point A to Point B reliably, and to not soak me financially outside of warranty. Your oil consumption problems are annoying, and I'd be frustrated too. But at least they don't strand the car on the side of the road. Topping off your oil is annoying, and is a cost that adds up over time, but as long as you stay on top of it, the consumption will not leave you stuck on the side of the road. I just ran some numbers. If you have to add a $6.50 quart of oil every 1200 miles, that would cost you $542 over 100k miles. If you put 15k miles/year on your car, that's $81/year you're spending on oil that someone with no consumption isn't spending. Not great, but really not a huge amount of money in the grand scheme of things. [NOTE: These number are actually higher than reality, because there would be some points during that 100k miles that you would be due for an oil change anyway, so instead of adding a quart to your crankcase, you would simply do a normal oil change as part of your preventive maintenance routine.] So I don't blame you for being annoyed that your new Subie is consuming oil. But really, if it were me, I'd keep the car, add oil every couple of weeks, keep a quart in my trunk when I'm going on road trips, and enjoy an otherwise reliable car. It would be easy to just eat the $81 (or less)/year that I'd be spending in oil top-offs. I doubt that most of us would even notice $81/year in the finances. If you upgrade to a WRX, you'll spend much more than an extra $81/year in insurance and premium gas. IMHO. |

That's where you're wrong, Steve. I'm already paying WRX insurance thanks to my vin.
If my car only used a little, or even at a steady rate, MAYBE I'd agree with your assesment. But mne has been increasing its oil use with every oil change. Wher will it be if it makes it 100,000+ miles? |

If what you're saying is true about the consumption increasing, that is perfect for you. You'll be at the consumption range for a new motor. Why would you complain about that? |

Oil consumption isn't my only complaint. My doors retain water. A lot. Still.
And my squeaky, springy feeling drivers seat still aint right after thr factory fix. The paint and interior fabrics aren't holding up too well. A crack in the windshield. If you touch anything plastic, it scratches easily. Right rear caliper is making noises. Coolant slowly being consumed, but not as bad as the oil. If you don't gramma it, you get wrx gas mileage. I could live with all the "quirks", but it burning oil more and more with mileage. Although now that its winter and a chilly 65f thge consumption LOOKS to be slowing. But EVERY time I get a little bit optimistic, I'm quickly reminded that it does iondeed have a serious (at least imho) problem. |

STeye- I agree and that's why I'm keeping the car, at the rate its going, by 30k, I should be burning enough that they'll HAVE to fix it.
I've called and written to USAA a dozen times. I even went to Progressive and another ins company where my aunt and cousin are agents. They confirmed that something is askew with the vin. If I get a quote from any other 2012 2.0i vin, its way cheaper. I'll get it sorted out hopefully. And usaa will then owe me a nice refund check, which may help buy more oil. I've written Subaru and called, regarding the vin. No response from the peanut gallery. |

My advice is to sell it. Thats what I did. Even though I had none of your issues I thought it was underpowered and returned poor MPG at least for me. Believe it or not after 8 months into a 42 month lease I lost 1,500 dollars on a trade |
