And this is where someone posts a picture of that Legacy racecar that DID have a driveshaft through the block.

If you want to keep the lower center of gravity that helps Subaru vehicles with the Boxer Engine design, you can't put it over the driveshaft. AWD won't work on the BRZ because of how it's set up. Without a complete reconstruction of the layout in a BRZ, there's no way you could make an AWD variant.

So while we wait in anticipation to see what the car will look like (and whether it will be a 3 door), let's look at some other 3 doors out there just for fun (mainly because I like pics as well). Yes I know you don't get them in the US, but I'm just looking at random 3 door cars. The Focus RS is the most aggressive, the Megane RS265 looks polarising in that I don't know whether I like or hate it, and the Astra VXR looks cool but not aggressive from the front. I'm intrigued as to what a 3 door WRX could look like....

I, for one, don't want VW accouterments in an STI. It's just the wrong category - Subaru is not known for their luxury appointments, so why start now? It seems silly to try and compete with VW at their pricepoint and competitive advantage. Instead, with the STI they should focus on what Subaru is known for: horizontally-opposed engines, AWD utility, safety, and reliability. Trying to do all these AND throw a bunch of money into engineering/designing a "VW-quality-interior" seems like a waste when it's not even what Subaru is good at or what their core demographics value.

Unless Subaru just wants rich teenager money (An extremely small demographic) They better offer some refinement with their power. A lot of people who grew up in the WRX generation are getting older and don't want a car based on pure performance any more. |

Sounds like there's a lot of pent up demand for a $75k legacy gt300 based Panamera fighter. I'll take my Subarus cheap and reliable thank you very much. I don't need to be competing with the suit and tie crowd for a "luxury" car. The interior on my wrx is still perfectly adequate 11 years later.

Saw this about the 2008. It seems we have been seeing WRX test mules in Impreza bodies. Hopefully a prototype will be spotted soon. |

Whatever form the car comes in, 2, 3, 4, or 5 doors, I hope Subaru keeps the WRX a softer & more livable car than the STI variant. But looking at what Subaru did with the Forester/FXT, I think the new car will still be a sea of plastic and the same simplicity (lack of amenities) as we see today. What I find somewhat humorous is that a base WRX comes with automatic climate control, but no lumbar adjustment! |

A lot of people who grew up with the WRX should look towards the Legacy if they desire comfort over the cheap/reliable Impreza platform. It just seems more logical to look for comfort in a car that has more room, more comfortable seating arrangement, etc. Quote:
