Well well well, looks like I beat you Shaun.. *Grin*

Had fun today, too bad I didn't have anything fun to install. And I totally forgot to do the throttlebody bypass mod, grrr! Guess i'll have to do this later tomorrow or something. Can someone tell me the quickest, easiest way to do it? Do you just switch the two lines on the tbody? Do the ol' swap-a-roo?

So what's on everybody's plate for the next JMS meet?

Hank's car is rad, gimm0r those Wheelz, Yo!

Jay - thanks for the props yo!!! Bling Bling!!! I was actually quite taken and amused at how y'all liked the headlights and how the low beam pattern was. Glad y'all liked my ride - maybe I'll sell the rims to you guys one day if you want them and if I go to 18's

Yeah dude, if you get 18s, I will buy your Prodrives in a HEARTBEAT. Don't forget about me! =) Yeah i'm looking into those headlights right now, cheapest so far is $650.. ouch! Need to save up for those!

Edit: Hank, I found out why you can't get past 15 psi, the Boost Monkey doesn't remove the factory boost limiter. The factory boost limiter is around 15 psi. Stock boost is around 13 psi. So yes, 2 psi will be a big gain! There's a thread in Factory Forced Performance that tells you how to remove the factory boost limiter with the boost monkey! All is good.

Hank - I'm 99% sure the you dont need the MIL, you have 1 CAT in the down pipe. Have your brother remove what we did and see what the difference is on the A/F gauge. The CEL was not from a CAT problem.

You already have the 3/16 connector, factory boost is 14-15 PSI. You should be able to go higher with the Monkey 16-17. The CEL was for the boost solenoid, that leads me to believe yours may have a problem.

Find another WRX, swap out the boost solenoid and see if your boost is different. Or wait until we meet again and drive over. Have you had a chance to compare the TT and boost readings?

I would be VERY interested in those rims

Jay - I'll charge up the camera and snap a few pics of the TB thing. Does the exhaust make noise, klunk-klunk?

Dave - Responding to your PM, it's cheap and a noticable improvement. "May cause cancer" and "Under penality of Law" Who cares it's more power R-R-R.

Rich just called and he thinks the runs will start around 11, if you want to go and watch Rich AutoX give me a call 777-5464. I'm going around 12.

Went for another Auto-X day with Rich.

He should have won his class with the fastest time. I was even along for balast.

Mark you calendars 12 & 13 October, Florida / Georgia Auto-X event. I'll talk to Mr. Porter about sponsoring our little group as a Dealership race team.

Just got back myself from the event and wanted to thank Shaun and Dave for the passenger side balast. And yes the plaque will fit on the I LOVE ME wall.

Don't know what the point standings are looking like for the region but I should be in good stead. Now we just need to set a date for some fine tuning and trials before the FL/GA meet. Anyone know where I can get a new tire?

No way, I should be thanking you for the ride-along, that was pretty amazing. Makes me realize what a n00b I am about driving though, but at least I realize it right?

Man, my fair Scandanavian skin did not do well with standing out on the runway all day. By the time I realized it, it was already too late. I look a lot like this guy right now . Only not so mad.

So, how do I get driving practice? Or do I just have to head out to the autocrosses and live up to the big fat 'N' on the side of my car?

Question More questions...sorry

Alright - thanks for all the responses guys.

Shaun - first off, thanks for taking the call from my bro. I figured it would be better if you talked to him directly.

Now I'm kind of confused with some of the posts in this thread. Jay, you wrote in yours that the stock psi is around 13. I thought it was 14.5 or so (from readings on i-club). And then Shaun; you posted that stock psi is 14-15. So what's my car actually running as far as boost with the monkey? Is it running 15-16 psi, but the gauge just not reading it because of the factory boost limiter? Shaun, did you remove the factory boost limiter?. Didn't you see your boost go up to 16 psi on your gauge prior to your Monkey frying on you?

I think my bro and I will take off the MIL eliminator just to see what happens. He also was wondering why you guys tapped the A/F gauge into the ECU and not the O2 sensor up front. He's done a few A/F gauge installs and used to seeing that gauge bounce back and forth from lean to rich while just idle, while mine is not doing anything while at idle.

Last thing...is this CEL that I'm pulling (it's happened twice now), the p0245 Turbo Waste gate solenoid a serious CEL that will harm my car soon or what? I just think it was weird that it went off after filling up gas while I was in JAX.

Thanks again. You guys definitely have first dibs if I sell my P1's. If I so sell them, it'll be after I wear out these T1-s's.

When he first got the CEL after his up-pipe install, I pull the code with my obd-2 software and it pulled the catalytic inefficiency code. I don't remember what the number was, but it was a cat code.

After thinking about it for a few, I don't think the MIL would have any effect on what the A/F meter would read because the MIL is installed on the rear O2 sensor and the A/F meter is suppose to pull from the front O2 sensor. The computer only checks to see if the cat's working with the rear O2 sensor.

No no, 14.5 psi is NOT stock. 13 to 13.5.. I was pushing 14 psi AFTER the 3/16th mod.

My boost was 13-14.5 stock, depending on day and gear selection. After Monkey I could get it to 17. My new Monkey will be here this week, more to follow.

We removed no restrictors, I would have put in the 3/16th thing but you already did.

If your that concerned about the A/F readings, run a wire from the purple wire (it's the blue one under the dash, under the car to the rear O2 sensor. Splice the wire in between the MIL and O2 sensor.

Aftert the car is warmed up, the A/F dosen't swing back and forth real fast. It will go slowly from Rich to Lean. Important to watch for all green under WOT and 1-2 bars of red at idle. Take your foot off the gas while cruising and the gauge will go black/off/show nothing.

Did you have the turbo back exhaust before you changed the uppipe? Do you know there is a recall out for a few select VINs because the ECU is overly sensitive to CAT inefficiency.

So I'll have a new set of rims around Christmas time

Guys we need to find an old parking lot where we can have "Rich's Auto-X Driving School" before the 12 &13 of October.

What about the parking lot behind SOJ, I wonder if Mr. Porter would alow his soon to be sponsored Auto-X team to practice there.

Good - we'll try all of the suggested things. But wait guys. Do I take off the boost limiter or not? Will I start getting readings above 15 psi after that? Or maybe not even do that?

I had the turbo back way before the uppipe. Car came with thee turbo back installed. Never even saw the stock exhaust on my Subie.

Make sure you read the thread about getting the Monkey to go above stock PSI. There's 3 restrictors, 2 are bad and 1 is good. Read up first.

Just talked to SOJ about the Auto-X, sounds promising. Do me a favor and NO ONE talk to SOJ about getting things from them, I've got a background in this. I'm not saying you can't mention it, just DONT solicit any thing. Hopefully we'll get good support from Mr. Porter for the event.

Shaun - ok, I think I read the thread you and Jay recommended me to read a couple of times now. Not a lot of the guys mentioned that they actually removed the stock limiter. What are the 2 bad and 1 good restrictors you're talking about? I don't think I quite understood that or may have just blown over my head while I was reading the thread. Please grant me pardon through all this - I guess I'm still questioning the validity of taking off the the stock boost limiter.

Shaun - isn't the one good connector WebKris and you talking about the 3/16 connector that I already have? If it is, then why am I still not running past 15 psi?

Also, my brother and I are going to tap into the rear 02 sensor eventually for the A/F gauge. The A/F I bought was for a narrow band 02 sensor and the front 02 sensor is a wideband one. In anycase, I know that the reading from the A/F gauge won't be as accurate as if it were in the front 02 sensor compared to it being tapped to the rear 02 sensor, but the front 02 sensor is pretty proprietary - from what my brother was saying.

One last thing - you know that ECU cover we forgot to put back on? Well, I lost it somewhere between us finishing up the install and on the way back to Talley. How important is that cover? You recommend me ordering another one through Subaru?

The cover is there just incase the air box/heater core leaks. You can cover the ECU with any type of flexable plastic.

DONT use the front O2 for the A/F gauge. The voltage is 3 times what the gauge is calibrated for, it WILL fry it.

If you dont want to remove the MIL, hook the A/F gauge in between the MIL and rear O2 sensor. It will take some long wire.

Have you swapped out the boost solenoid yet? If you have the 3/16th in and everything else is stock, swap out the solenoid.

Have you got any more CEL codes?

I just have the 3/16 connector in right now and have not changed out anything else since Saturday. And from what I read in the thread you linked me, I was supposed to be able to see above 15 psi with just the 3/16 mod. You have no idea how confused I am at this point, let alone feel dumb with all this Boost Solenoid, Turbo Waste Gate, 3/16 connector talk, hoses, and all this mess. I'm sorry for the lack of knowledge at this point. So I don't need to swap out the Turbo Waste Gate right? I need to ask my buddy up here that owns a WRX if I can use his Boost Solenoid? And if it's my Boost Solenoid that's not working properly, when I install his, theoretically I'll run higher boost/my boost gauge will read above 15 psi?

I haven't pulled anymore CEL codes. The second CEL occurred on Sunday. The CEL occurred during WOT in 4th gear and lower RPM's the second time. The first time I don't remember quite so well since we were doing runs to set the Monkey.

That is exactly what you need to do next.

"And if it's my Boost Solenoid that's not working properly, when I install his, theoretically I'll run higher boost/my boost gauge will read above 15 psi?"

Turn the moknkey all the way down before testing. Then increase to see if you go over 15.

Ok - I'll ask djerickd to see if he would be willing to help me out by letting me install his Boost Solenoid. Just in case he doesn't, you have any idea how much these suckers cost? Could it be that my ECu wasn't used to added boost and that's why it caused a CEL? But even if that's the case, my boost guage should have read over past 15 psi right?

If he has a boost gauge, ask him to put your solenoid in his car.

No idea what the price is, jot down the part number and check here

On the way home tonight, family in the car, open stretch of 2 lane road. The wife and I see this bird that looks like a wild turkey with long legs on the side of the road.

As we get closer it decides to cross the road, I start to head for the other lane when it jumps off the ground and starts to fly.

60 mph controlled swerve to the left and the damn thing's head hits my passenger mirror. The mirror slams back and the glass breaks making this super loud BLAM.

I get home to find a small dent under the mirror and some feathers stuck in the door handle. The small scratches all buffed out, thankfully.

Busy day for the Parks family, but we kicked that turkey thing's @$$.
