Talking Need help with wheel bearing questions. 05 sti

Hello. I have done bunches of research and people keep contradicting everything and I'm getting frustrated so I decided to make a thread even though there are tons out there already so here goes.
My 05 sti has a plethera of issues that I'm taking one at a time right now I'm working on wheel bearings. Had a shop do L rear a year ago and they didn't replace axle seals plus un balanced tires equals it's bad again the R rear went bad 2 months ago so i replaced with a crappy chinese one for now to buy time. Now I have a little extra money so I figure f it I'll do all 4 so I don't have to worry about them. I know what to do for the rears. But the front is stumping me some other threads said you can't replace just the bearing you need a whole new hub but I am finding just the bearings for sale. Is it just people don't want to press on press off?? I can do that just takes a little time and effort I have $500 to do all 4 so I can't afford seals bearings and hubs for the front as well as seals and bearings for rear. Anyone know for a fact how to or what to do or part numbers for me Please!! Thank you in advance. Aaand only OEM links would help too. No haters please.

05 STi front bearings are bolt-on. That's all I can really help you with, since I'm a terrible mechanic. But doing frequent track days, I have had my wheel bearings replaced quite a lot.

The 2005+ STI front wheel bearings are actually hub units. As in the bearing and hub are combined into one assembly. These slip fit and bolt into the front knuckles. Typically getting the old ones out is a PITA due to corrosion sticking them in there. They may need "persuasion". There are no separate wheel bearing seals used since these are sealed bearings.

Timken sells these for the 08+ STI application but they will also work on your 2005. They cost less than Subaru (ntn) hub units. Basically the same ntn unit. Might allow you to do all four corners that way. Is actually use timken for the rear bearings too. Subaru or Timken rear bearing seals is a toss up their pricing is pretty close on those.

I think you can handle getting p/n and such yourself. It's covered in existing threads already.

The *best* option is 2015 GpN front hubs/bearings (28373ZR000) and rear OEM bearings re-packed with NEO HP800. Older GpN front hubs have been discontinued as they are (surprise!) the same part as the new one.

I'd install longer wheel studs when you do the job, as well.

Can you even get 28373ZR000 by means of US based part sources? I'd like to know where since I can't seem to confirm that. I'd like to see what grease they are putting in those -vs- the grease I'm replacing into the OEM hubs.

My initial thought was doubting the OP uses this car in any way that extra heat resilience and longer studs would benefit them. Someone going on-track often....that's another thing.

28373ZR000 can be obtained by anyone that is a source for JDM parts. It cannot be purchased at regular US dealerships. It uses grease more in-line with HP800 (grease upgrade stated in documentation) and the hub *may* have some differences in heat treatment. The is a simple eyeball-based guess when I had it sitting side-by-side with a new OEM unit - differences in coloration of the metal. Rallispec thought this might be the case, as well; I asked them a while back - they couldn't confirm it, however.

Better grease is ALWAYS a good idea in the rear (pre-2008).

If longer studs are even a fleeting thought in your mind - get them now.

Ahh Thanks, that is what I thought. Just wanting to make sure I was not overlooking those being in the USDM parts system.

No.
05 is individual bearings/hubs/seals pressed into the knuckles.
08 is a bearing/hub assemblies bolted into the knuckles.
See differences in parts diagrams below.
You can also look up and compare parts/part numbers here https://parts.subaru.com/
