Default STi Cobb Stg2 1/4 mile results (disappointing)

First will be reference numbers of what i ran stock, then my times from this morning...

Bone stock with about 8,000 miles on the car. Temp 90, high humidity:
(can't find my slip)

60ft 1.8xx
1/4 13.6 @ 98 mph

Car moded at 12k miles
Mods:
APS 3" Turbo back, catless
stock intake (snorkus removed)
Cobb Stg2 93oct reflash

Track: Mid-Michigan motorplex (Stanton, MI)
Temp: 60, low humidity
Current car mileage 18k

R/T .055
60ft 1.893
330 5.719
1/8th 8.824 @ 81.05mph
10000 11.483
1/4 13.703 @ 103.16mph

I must say... i'm quite disappointed. The track also has way to much grip.. Great for rwd and fwd.. not so great for awd. Even launching at 6krpm, and slipping the clutch, i got zero wheel spin. Just have to ride the clutch out to get any decent 60ft times.

id be disappointed with those times from a stock sti let alone stage 2... youre making decent power (81mph to 103), maybe its your driving?

Driving is part of the problem...

You think things are bad now? Wait till you move to FL. I was .5 seconds slower and a bunch of mph off of my times up in New Hampshire when I raced at Moroso down in FL.

and to give you some perspective I ran 83mph in the 1/8th and 103mph in the žmile in my STi stock.

Not that I am disagreeing with you, but either your car is down on power or your shifting need to be faster.

I recall you have been switching and reflashing the past few days. Maybe give a week or so of learning and try again.

200 miles on my learn before i raced today. difference in hp between 200 miles and 500 miles shouldn't be that great. mebby 5-10 hp.. i dunno.. just makes my stomach sink.

id say shifting is a major part of it. i dont think hes down much on power - hes making up 22 mph. that '60 could be .2 lower, but even with a 1.70 '60 (which might put him at 13.3 @ close to 105), the et would still be off... so yep probably your shifts.

LoL, I would love to have a grippy track. Why would you want to sping all 4 tires or even the front/rear? That was a major issue for me last year, luckily I got a 1.660 60FT, but that was the last one I ever saw. The rest of the times the track was not hooking up at all. It's your 60Ft and driving. 13.7 at 103 ? That mph at that time, you should run a 12.5-12.8 easily!

-Wes

P.S., reason why I say that, is becuase look at my time to your left under my name, you've got the power.

a little wheelspin off the line builds boost and saves the tranny... well my 5mt at least. you (obviously) can easily abuse the 6mt and break off great '60s.

I don't know about running 12.5-12.8 @ 103. 103 with good driving is good for a 13.1-13.3 usually.

V6: I'm sure he's in FL now, it's not 90 degrees in MI in October.

Ahh... as i reread things I see where I misread things I looked at his profile and assumed it was current.

Ya... so in that case dont sweat it that much... You could do better, but I doubt you can run equal times to what 75% of the rest of the country can... The location is a definate factor.

I do not see how i could shift any faster. One run i ground going into 2nd shifting too fast. and really.. the track is too sticky, my first run I spun a very little amount, and then it bogged. I kid you not, the track is just way too sticky for awd. I've stalled launches from 6 grand. luanching on the street all i need to is blip to 4k ish, and slide, and i get a perfect amount of wheel spin.

have you tried blipping it at the track? as for wes's times i saw him pull it but were up here in alaska and the air is cooler and denser than down there but we only get to use our track a couple months out of the year i know launching the sti is different than the wrx but still your times should be a bit lower around 13.1 to even a 12.9 try going to a different track if ones close by and see how she runs on that track... just my .02 worth not much just thught i'd give it.

Hmmm...............yeah no doubt that at the time Wes was making less power than BOFslime. All he had was an aftermarket catback and downpipe. Everything else was stock and on 92oct. Now he has quite a bit more mods and not running stock boost but we'll have to wait till next year to see if he can pull another 1.6

yes, as i acknowledged. i was pointing out the fact that a little wheelspin can help your 60'. imo the sti is easier to launch than the wrx... but then again ive never taken an sti to the track to see what kind of '60 i can break off. v6 how were your 60s in the sti compared to your wrx?

I think your shifting must suck or you are shifting at the wrong rpm's. The reason is because your 60 ft isn't THAT bad. Not to run a 13.7 @ 103. I ran alot of 13.0's at 103 with mid 1.8 60ft's . Your 1/8 mile times are SLOW. You have the power to go way faster times and although the 60ft could be better its not like it is a 2.0 or 2.2 or something.

This track is so sticky that i can not get out of the hole and not bog! my 1.8 60ft is still bogging.
I'm shifting at 6200 rpm (which i belive was a recommendation v6 made in another thread), and for the last time I DO NOT SHIFT SLOW! from the 1/8th on, everything looks good, my problem is my 1, 2, 3 shift, and mostly just from bogging down so much that i just fall on my face until i get out of 2nd.

Horrible...

I ran 13.2@103 with a 1.87 iirc... I was averaging around 1.9's...

But I was running on opening day and the day after that. So the track surface sucked to say the least. I was spinning badly or bogging.

I still have only brought my STi to the track 3 times iirc... not much experience at all yet.

My wrx was hooking 1.83-1.89 usually. Much easier to launch than the STi due to the lack of traction imho. I either bog the STi, or come out too hard and get bad spin... I still have lots of experimenting to do.
