New Project Car for fun maybe track
Ok, I've been thinking about starting a project car and I've been thinking about the following cars, 240z with ls1 motor, mazda miata with built motor + turbo, or mr2 turbo with built motor + upgrade turbo. The Ultimate Street Car Challange MR2 that won looked pretty awesome. I like the miata and mr2 to catch a little sun in and I love the looks of the mr2. I've had a Z and the car is great fun to drive. If I could find a light-weight droptop to put the STI drivetrain that would also be an option. I'm leaning towards the mr2, what else should I be considering?

datsun 510 would be fun to build up. id really like to try throwing a small block chevy/ls1 into a 240sx. itd be fun to blow away all those sr20det conversions out there.

the MR2 and miata are both good choices in my book...building the MR2 would probably less custom/hassle work, UNLESS you are talking the V6 supercharged swap (like the one that won USCC)

What v6 was it running? I never read SCC so I have no idea what sort of setup the car has.

It was a solara v6 with a supercharger. It made over 400 to the wheels. That would be interesting.

That would not be the same starting point - the M3 is a better base to start from and considering a V8 the larger wheel wells just for one.

I've built an MR2 Turbo prior to my current car. It started as a NA and then got the Turbo engine swap, later it got the JDM GTS turbo (CT-20) which is ball bearing and good to 21 psi. On the stock fuel system w/ an upgraded intercooler it is safe to run them all the way up. Untuned they make about 270-280 wheel horsepower, and tuned they can make 300-310whp.
They are great cars, and with the suspension upgraded as well they are tough to beat anywhere. That kind of power is good for 11 sec timeslips, and with the fairly light chassis it turns on a dime. Definatly very fun cars. Kinda useless as an only car (like mine was) but definatly fun. That would be my vote. Dan |

Thanks, mr2 turbo is definitely in the lead. Did you get your turbo clipped? I've just heard people doing this but usually this messes up the efficiency of the turbo.
