Default Lee Berbs is the king of tint - drove from Boston to him because tinters here suck

Cliff notes:

You guys in Tri-state area are blessed by having Lee Berbs (Applied Film Technologies in Kenilsworth, NJ) who is the true "king of tint". He really knows how to finish edges on frameless Subaru windows. Also he uses Madico Charcool film that is much better film than Suntek Carbon, both look and longevity wise.

Longer version:

I had my first Sub tinted by Lee three years ago. It was my first tint job ever, so I didn't know what to expect and thus didn't really appreciate the excellent job Lee did - particularly filing the edges. I got another Subaru recently, but I moved to MA since, so I looked for a local place to do the tint just like Lee did. In meantime I saw many Subaru with tint jobs much inferior to what I got, so I now understood the difference. After checking several places which could not do filing, I called Tint King in Billerica, MA and asked for filed edges, they said they can do no problem for an extra charge.

So there I went. I started getting bad vibes, when it came to filing the edges. First the guy was searching for the file long time (good he didn't run to buy one in Walmart) - which tells me he doesn't use it often - and he actually admitted it he is not really comfortable doing it. Whoa? Now he is telling me in the middle of the job?

He went onto filing the edges it (and now I realize in totally wrong way), tearing them in the process. Result - the tint of the two windows started to peel off within a month, third sometime later. And that car I hardly drive.

I went back to have it corrected, but it was obvious having them fix it won't be productive. The guy behaved as bit of jerk frankly, I spare the details, but I managed to get partial refund.

Next weekend I ran to New Jersey to Lee to have that crap removed and tint redone. Totally worth the trip and cannot recommend him higly enough. Not only he is much cheaper, but the quality of film and workmanship cannot be compared.

Btw, Suntek Carbon film Tint King uses is junk compared to Madico Charcool. Some people criticize Charcool for looking green from the inside - but this is good because the tone matches the factory tint that is there (about 5%) and is green. It just look natural. Suntek makes the windows look like they are permanently dirty and dusty like from the inside. Finally I saw how crappy adhesive Suntek uses, you can just tear it off from the window and almost no trace is left. When I was digging tintdude.com forums there is consensus Madico uses best adhesives in the industry - meaning longest lasting film.

A hand file is used to finish the edge, so the film goes all the way to the glass edge - leaving NO gap. Looks like factory tint.

Some people do "shaving" which is cutting the film at the edge, but I believe this is inferior technique to filing.

i work for garden state window tinting and LEE is a very good tinting the way he tints is he lays the film on the window and then cuts it so it is right to the edge and that way is very very hard to do he knows his **** i give the guy mad props for his work i have seen his work and all i got to say is its F U C K I N G sick

and Madico is not a bad film by the way but i would much rather pick LLUMAR over madico 3M and other brands. dont 4 get its the tinter not the film a lto of ppl think they know what they are doing but they do every thing wrong the preparing on the window.. its all about how you shrink the back window and most cars need the side windows to be shrunk and if you dont shrink the film be 4 you lay it on your going to run in to problems.. but 3M sucks i dont care what you tell me 3M sucks there film blow there glue on the film sucks pealing the film after 10 years is a bitch un like LLUMAR i have taken off 20 year old LLUMAR film and it comes off all in one peace with out it splitting and etc no matter what you do when you peal tint its going to leave glue unless you use a steamer or rapid remover then the glue comes off like nothing but.. like i said its all about the tinter more water and soap the cleaner the window will come out aka no dust under the film got to scrape the window a couple times and squeegee the window every time you scrape it im not new to tinting but im not old im still learning but i know a lot... lee is a well know tinter int he tint industry in NY NJ PA CT bump for lee...

but garden state window tinting can do a good clean job like lee so hes not the only one that is good in NJ give us some love we are dam good did every thing on my car my self and i didn't let my car leave the shop till it was just right and the same goes for every car that comes in the shop
