One of the best examples I have seen is in the 997 GT3 (issue resolved I believe on later gen 2 RS models). These are cars built for track use off the showroom floor more than most all cars out there, but there is a little 90 deg coolant line that is notorious for bursting on hotter track days. Most guys who know this that will put the majority of the miles on their car at the track have them welded to ensure no failures under heavy thermal loads, but some do not resulting in nasty coolant spills (line is above the left rear tire on a 400+hp RWD/rear engined car, you do the math). Lesson: No car is 100% fail proof when you drive your car hard btw, sweet garage SLO_flat4! You have the right kind of engines in your cars haha!

pretty sure there were a bunch of stock block 300-400whp tC's running around a few years back
159hp to 400hp is 150% more than stock K series engines can handle quite a bit of power as well Last edited by Celery GT-5; 11-01-2013 at 01:59 PM. |

The block on TCs can handle it. The connecting rods and pistons fail starting at about 210 on. There were guys popping them with the TURD superchargers.
K series motors do handle more, but not a ton more and not without work. |

The K series is pretty good, it is not bulletproof. I know that the timing chain tensioner is usually a weak point in every K series (Honda has a TSB about it), and lets not forget the crappy 6 speed and even the auto is supposedly bad as well (although I didn't have an issue with mine). And high horse usually needed alot of modifications, and even then, most have had to rebuild the motor and use forged internals. Junior's MR build is still not done after he blew the motor. The point is every car has its issues. Every car I have owned has different weakpoints highlighted on forums, and friends of mine have similar known issues with their cars (best friend has a 350z, and the VQs have their issues too). I try not to take too much stock in it though. Most of the Subaru issues I have seen here were either associated with the bad batch of 2009 WRXs (and were addressed by Subaru) or were from cars that have been modified/raced. My WRX is just a commuter, so I hope it remains trouble free |

I guess my ultimate point is that it doesn't make sense to sell a car, and lose money in the process, on the fear that some random issue might pop up (referring to the guy that figured he should sell his car because best has an issue with his modded car).

Yeah but that's the way it goes with this stuff. Usually when people push a car to the point where it is a good deal faster than stock they play around with it for 6 months to a year, get bored or annoyed and then move on to something else. Almost always happens with engine swaps. Or if the person has money they just store it and move on to something else. Because the real fun is the building process not the final result. Because the final result is just your cheap car performing like an expensive car for possibly more money than the expensive car was in the first place lol.

I remember the company ZPI that used to turbo a lot of TC's. Don't know what happened to them though. |

meh i beg to differ on this one, almost every boosted tc1 with a dezod "stage1" turbo kit on just 8-9lbs were in the 341hp and about 325tq range, literally all of them, same with ptuning turbo kits. those cars could handle that power it seemed like, but they werent anymore reliable than the subaru with alittle bit of bolt ons etc,
