Default 2000 Leg GT Ltd - Will later MY head units fit?

I'm on the verge of getting a 2000 Leg Gt Ltd and was wondering if the Subie multi-cd head units from later MYs are plug-and-play.

Anybody know?

As long as it is the DIN style - I have the 6 cd from a 2003 WRX in mine.

05 Leg and up do not fit.

Yeah, 05+ Legacy's all have the radios built-in. But anything else is pretty much swappable at will.

I once thought about getting a silver double-din from an STI and getting the silver molding pieces from a Baja but then I realized that is far too much work.

not too much work if you just order it all from subaru. but then it would be too much money, which you have to work for... so I guess it WOULD be too much work.

My GT LTD did come with the nice in-dash changer, but I was lusting after the Baja silver moulding when I saw it at the dealer. The only problem I could see is that it didn't have the door for the cupholder in the upper right corner, above the radio. I really don't use it that much, because it doesn't even hold a can of soda properly, but it's been a conversation piece on more than one occasion.

People really like that cup holder in the dash until they try and use it

Haha, yeah. It's so captivating that I didn't even realize the holders in the center console for months. This, of course, was after trying to figure out how anyone could use the dash mounted one to hold any sort of drink container that contained fluid.

Cans do fit ok, and have a low enough center of gravity that they don't flop over. I have had it actually start crushing a can more than once, which makes it stay in there better, but also makes it hard to get out. The center console seems to be a much better place to put 'em.

Has anyone actually done the Baja trim swap?

I thought about it but decided not. It is quite bright I think. The wood isn't great but it's not flashy. I want the center peice with the 2 drink holders.

hah. people go nuts over my cup holder too. even people that have brought it up before forget about it, then ask what the hell it is again. it's kind of like a 3rd nipple or a tail.

on another note, can I get an aftermarket head unit to work with the oem 6 cd changer?

You might be able to get a deck that works with the OE changer, but it'd probably have to be a Panasonic or Clarion or whomever makes the OE unit. I have considered an MP3 or iPod-ready deck a few times, but I literally sleep better with the bone stock OE deck in place.

Ahh

Well, that is why we have insurance. Plus, I was going to try for a low profile deck maybe with a detachable face even. Nothing fancy, like a DVD player & screen.

the dash cupholder works fine for cans with me too. And you are right, everyone who gets in the car is in wonder over the darn thing. They think it's some sort of amusement, cause they always want to push it in and out...

and there are adaptors to make aftermarket changers work with factory heads, but I don't think there are adaptors to go the other way around...

And I do admit that i worry about theft with my aftermarket head unit...
