I'm sure she'll be pleased

Goodluck with the recirc valve mod and let us know if you have any problems with it.

Wouldn't telling her that you're selling the old engine for $2,000-$3,000 make her happier?

I am putting mine in on Monday sometime.
I am looking to run 21PSI ont he big map, tapering to 19PSI(ish)
17 PSI peak holding to redline on the second map and 16PSI holding to redline on the daily map.
My GFB doesnt even hold 16 to redline. What a POS
ALthough I havent tried adding another washer to it.

I just found a better rendition of this mod. More expensive but no side effects.

That's exactly what I was looking for. I used to own a 420WHP DSM. There were quite a few guys that did this, however most of them just crushed it a little. I did initially. That damned thing held 24psi with no leaking or driveability issues. Plus it costs nothing to do. Just don't crush it too much. If you do, it will no longer seal. This is what I would do, the 1G dsm BOV and WRX BOV are identical other than the flange used for mounting.

So does anybody know for a fact that there are any aftermarket bov's that do hold to at least 22psi?

Just about all the aftermarket ones will hold more than an unmodded stocker.

Depends on how you adjust it and how much surge your turbo can take. I ran a GFB for ~2weeks. I got sick of cleaning and oiling it to keep it working corectly.
I did the mod to the stocker and never had a problem running a 16G ~23psi.
I have been doing this mod for the local owners here and they have had nothing but good things to say about it.

I know that the HKS SSQV will hold that much boost. I ran 26 PSI out of a huge turbo and it held fine.

did this mod tonight.

i managed to do it for ZERO MONEY..

i had a small flat head bolt that seemed to thread into the hole. i took a large drill bit and countersunk the hole so that it tapered to meet the bolt head chamfer. then i drilled out the other hole, and replaced my trusty old txs rfl with the now-modded stocker.

first... daaayam, it's so quiet! i didn't really realize how loud the rfl was until it was gone. the ricer in me misses it dearly. i will not be selling it any time soon...

BUT

you can tell that the car is a bit happier with a BPV in place. i saw a bit more of an rpm surge as i lifted off the throttle, but it reapplied power much quicker after the shift/rollon. i noticed that the high rpm lift while staying in gear was much smoother.

what prompted this was a little time with my local constabulary. it seems that while pulling out of a parking lot the sound of the rfl was misinterpreted as "peeling out." after a lot of explanation i was let off the hook, but it was too close for comfort. these were the local cops in the city where i live, and it's pretty small. i just don't need the attention, as much as i love scaring pedestrians and such.

i might put it back on, or i might not. change is good... it makes you appreciate things. i'm running 17.5/18 psi on it and i netted the exact same manifold pressure before and after, so i know it's sealing well. so the plan is to run with the tms modded stocker for a while.

ps oh yeah today i realized the other benefit of the 100% vta bov... pulling your ic takes less time. now i've got to unscrew FOUR bolts instead of two.

Two bolts instead of four you mean?

I think I'll be doing this mod soon since my stock one stoped holding 21 PSI, it only does about 20 now. Does anyone think the compressor surge will not be good for the VF22 in the semi-long run? I'd rather spend a few bucks on an aftermarket one than 3x as much on a new turbo.

The surge is alot less than a dirty aftermarket one sprung loose. And no where close to a type-h sprung hard enough to hold 21psi.

chris, fwiw, i get about the same surge as i did with the rfl and 4 washers. it only happens at low throttle/low boost situations, so i don't think it's that big of a deal-- there's just not a whole lot of energy to be dissipated.

damn, i'm still amazed at how freaking quiet my car is! that's both and ...

If you have a shorty intake it almost sounds like an aftermarket BOV. I have had many people ask what BOV I run when they ride in the car. I tell them it is stock and I get the I don't belive you look.

i don't mean to hijack the $0.16 mod, but where did you hit the BPV with the hammer? also, how hard did you hit it? i think i would rather use a hammer than drill and tap.

I did the same mod, but have only boosted to 18 thus far. Need a retune.

Anyways, I lined up the male end of a 3/8" socket extension perpendicular to the top of the BPV, i.e. the cap. I then hit the female end of the extension with a hammer, until it dented in the cap about 1/8" to 3/16".

I did this mod a day after it was posted and have been happy ever since. I did not drill out the hole on the side of the BOV body, instead I pushed the BOV piston in about halfway and then inserted the set screw. This created a minor vacume so the valve can still blow off but not enough to counter the boost.

Running 22 psi.
