Default What's everyone using for detailing?

I just put in a huge order of detailing goodies for my new rex... the good stuff (Pinnacle, Blackfire, 303, P21S,microfiber towels, etc.)

So now I'm curious as to what everyone else is using to detail thier cars... Klasse? Pinnacle? Zaino? One Grand? Zymol? Meguairs? Turtle Crap?

Post some pictures of your hard work!!

Rain, bird crap, mud, and the occasional brushless car wash This time of year, it's not really worth washing your car here in the Great North West. That, and I don't wash it often enough as it is, let alone detailing it I know, I'm a bad person, but the dirt just calls to me. "Myles..., Myles..., come play with meeeee...."

Zaino products all the way. It may take a weekend at first but the end results are well worth it and durable. From that point onward the upkeep is incredibly easy. The car looks better than the day I bought it. When I was finally finished I coul not believe it was the original paint.......then reality smacked me in the back of the head as I noticed all the paint chips.

We are lucky to have such a strong market now in care products. Lots of points go into what your choice of "best product" to use is. I like to think about what my car will look like 60K miles from now. Although I think I will give Zaino products a try sometime, I have had really good results with the Mequiar's 3 step process. It includes a cleaner, polish and wax. The wax does not last too long though. But the cost is good, usually around 4-6$ per bottle. I also use an orbital buffer to apply and remove by hand.

I did the 3 step process on my new WRX Wagon. And, WOW! What a difference. New cars look good until you really spend some time with them. Then you really see what they look like.

Anyway, I used Mequiars on my 93 NX2000 Nissan and when traded, it was still beautiful. It was never garaged and was parked on the street for 2 of the last years I owned it.

So, the key is consistent care, no matter what products you use.

My word of advice -- if you do nothing else, take the bugs off when you get home.

Keep it shiny

Meguiars professional grade stuff (tan bottle). I never have taken it to any kind of car wash or have someone detail it and never will if I have anything to do with it. Oh yea, once a year I use the paint cleaner, wash it every week or two and polish and/or wax it every few weeks. It pays off

Great responses and awesome looking cars!

I can't wait to give the Blackfire stuff a try. I've been using all Meguairs stuff on my vehicles for about 3 years, and have been pretty much satisfied so far... although the GoldClass wax doesn't last very long. Hopefully the BlackFire will step me up to the "next level" in gloss & durability. Plus it will give me a good excuse to spend hours & hours with the rex

DoctorNick,

Just a little joke...

TurtleWax is a very cheap & crappy wax that can be had from any Walmart store. Probably the worst wax you can buy... some people love it though

Exclamation New car waxing

Poe,

It's not bad to wax a new car that has been painted at the factory. You can polish/wax it the day you drive it home, the sooner the better actually! Factory paint is baked on and fully cured by the time the car ever hits the lot.

If your car has been repainted, then you need to wait a couple weeks for the paint to fully cure before waxing.

Which wax are you talking about from them. Zymol??? Also...what is wrong with having the wax at walmart. Convience is not or your favor? Also shelf space is bought not given. Meguairs could buy space if they wanted but they choose to only give certain chains there biz. but please which wax are you talking about from turtle wax and why are they so bad?

go to www.properautocare.com

They have professional Meguiar's products, Pinnacle, 3M, and tons of other stuff. If I was to use carnuba I'd want to try the Pinnacle Souveran. Reading about that stuff makes me drool.

Also they run a website on detail at www.autopia-carport.com

It's fun to go there and read everyone's experience with the different products. It's set up like the i-club.

Default First Wax

Most new cars are sprayed w/ a protective layer of cosmoline(accdg to the ZYMOL manual). They recommend that u remove this coating prior to waxing/ polishing to allow the wax/polish to adhere to the paint better. I've been a fan of ZYMOL estate waxes for a very long time now. The only problem, which i'm sure others have had is that ZYMOL doesn't stay on the car as long as i wish it would. The shine usually fades after 3-4 washes.

Along comes ZAINO. It's not a wax but a synthetic polish. This stuff is so much easier to use vs. ZYMOL. It also lasts much longer.

I brought my car to the body shop to have a wing installed. The painter asked me what kind of wax/polish I use. He said he's never seen a wax that can bead solvent( the stuff they use to remove wax). That's just a testament to how good this stuff is.
Try it, you'll see.

www.zainobros.com

It will explain everything. While being consistent in cleaning your car is important, Zaino will make it that much easier and the results are incredible.

The Autopia forum is great!! I'm almost addicted to that forum as I am to the i-club! I ordered my products from www.properautocare.com, but there are lots of other good places online to order top-quality detailing stuff. Usually you can't find any of the good stuff in Kragen,Autozone, etc... I have however noticed that NAPA has all the professional Meguiars products.

Poe,
Getting a beautiful glossy shine doesn't just rely on a good polish & wax... it's all about SURFACE PREP. In order for the paint to be as glossy as possible, it must be completely free of surface contamination. To test this, put celophane wrap over your hand and rub against your clean paint. This will amplify any surface contamination. If it feels rough, use a clay bar (like Mothers or Meguiars) to remove the crud. You should also take care of any swirl marks or scrathes before waxing. Also, if you're going to use an Acrylic sealer like Blackfire, Klasse, or Zaino... it's a good idea to first wash your car with Dawn (or similar) dishwashing soap to strip all the old wax off, then follow up with your regular car washing shampoo.

Subbymama,

I was thinking about trying the Soveran myself, but after reading some reviews on the Autopia forum about BlackFire... I changed my mind. Blackfire supposedly offers the protection of Klasse but with the depth and warmth of a quality caranuba

DoctorNick,

I wasn't referring to any particular wax in the TurtleWax lineup... it was just a general childish remark Turtle wax is just known as one of the cheapest/low quality waxes available. I'm sure it offers half-decent protection as long as you wax often enough... there are just much better products available.

Zymol is a very overpriced caranuba wax. They target exotic car owners and have waxes that range in price from $80-1000 (yikes!)

I use Klasse All-in-One then their sealant glaze. Really easy to apply, and it looks great. I bought them both in a package from properautocare.com, which lists a very quick and easy application method. I've also copied it in my page under maintainance.

docotr- for who? turtle pooo? haha j/k

I've been using the meguires 3 in1 and like it but i'm going o switch to zano and use the mequires clay bar in conjuction. I think it will work the best. Meguires step 1 will save you if you're in a parking lot mishap.
