Default Vegas or Phoenix

Hi guys!

New to NASIOC, and relatively new to subies. My name is Craig and I live in Lake Havasu City, I have a 2011 SWP hatch and absolutely freakin' love it!

This car is my DD and although down the line I'll probably go crazy with it for now I think I'll at max get to roughly a 'stage 2' setup with it.

It has no mods at the moment unless you count limo tint and a radar detector but I am looking for advice regarding when I go to do some minor upgrades...where to get them done.

I always worked on my own stuff growing up, but I don't know the first thing about tuning to be honest. I don't think I'd have any major issues installing an exhaust system, but afterwards....I know from searching that it will need a tune. Heck, seems like from what I've read people recommend a tune regardless, seems to not be a lot of love for the stock tune from what I read (please correct me if I'm wrong).

So all that was basically to ask...where should I take my car to get it tuned? I went to the dealership on Sahara in Vegas just to get it looked at about 2 weeks ago because I felt it was getting abnormally low MPG, and discovered there is a tuning shop @ the dealership. The name of it was Zenkai Motorsports. The gentleman that helped me was awesome and it was a good all around experience but I was curious if anyone had any more info on them, or even if there was somewhere in Phoenix that you guys could recommend who really knew their subies. I don't mind driving a little farther to get the best service.

Thanks for listening to my long intro and questions guys, I don't have any good pictures to share at the moment but I'll snap some later if I get around to washing my car today that way at least there's something to look @ in this thread.

Thanks in advance for the help and gave a great day!

-Craig

Have you looked into getting a COBB AccessPORT?

They have tunes that come with it for stock, stage 1, and stage 2 with special maps just for the crap gas in AZ, CA, and NV. Lots of features and you can data log on it, post up the logs, and get a lot of good feedback on forums since a lot of people use it and tune with it.

Other than the price for a new one, I think it's a win-win.

zenkai motorsports are legit. they have several quality builds, along with a pikes peak race race and stephan verdiers global rally cross sti (both of which he crashed, lol) phoenix also has several quality builders/tuners.

but from the sounds of it, you really dont need to be going into a performance shop yet. like cube said, cobb ap offers off the shelf tunes for stock cars, that are much more affordable then paying a tuner 100+ dollars an hour.

Hi guys, thanks for the responses!

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, looking for a house at the moment and it's taken up most of my time away from work.

I have watched numerous videos on youtube, and read through several threads here on NASIOC, but I have not yet really researched them. I guess my hold of on really looking into them so far is because I don't really understand them. I am/was kind of under the impression that they have specific maps for particular aftermarket parts, not that you could use it to put on an aftermarket part and tune to that part.

Also thanks for the nod to Zenkai there Shwoop; I had a great experience when I took my car in for a quick checkup, and the gentleman who helped me seemed very nice. I just wanted to double check.

I think I need to do like you both suggested and read up/search on APs and see if I can educate myself on exactly the options that would give me.

MUCH thanks guys, exactly the intel I was looking for.
