Badass idea and I don't think you have enough android devices... lol. I want to route my wifes nook tablet and just assumed it might fit in a single din slot, but since my wife won't let me and I'm not sure of the nooks dimensions I may just have to get a Nexus 7 soon lol.

I just finished my install last week. Only thing left is to fiberglass a new bezel since the stock one overlaps the top of the screen by 2mm. Will post some picks and a link to my thread on xda when I'm not on my phone.

finally finished the nexus 7 install. it came out great. only thing i need to do is put some finishing touches to sync it up with the cars ignition. i already have it turning off/on with the car but still trying to find a way to pause/close music apps.

anyway heres the rundown of things i used/bought

tablet
- nexus 7
- kindle fire (does not have bluetooth/gps)
- custom rom (optional but recommended)

headunit
- i chose the jvc kdx50bt. best headunit for $100 from crutchfield. bluetooth, two usb ports, aux in, etc... came with wiring harness

accessories
- anti glare screen protector (optional)
- right angle 3.5mm audio cable (optional? if you use bluetooth to stream audio. havent tried yet)
- antenna extension (optional)
- right angle micro usb to usb
- obd2 bluetooth adapter (optional)

apps (protip: you get $25 play store credit with nexus 7 making all apps below free)
- tasker - to run custom tasks like turning on tablet with car
- smart rotator - will force apps to landscape
- tethergps - only for kindle since it lacks gps. this app allows you to tether gps off your phone so you can use maps etc
- media buttons - audio playback widgets. i think its not jelly bean compatible yet.
- volume control - lets you control volume anywhere with an overlayed volume bar
- torquepro - uses bluetooth obd2 adapter to display gauges, CEL's, etc

notes:
the headunit charges the tablet but i need to do more testing to see if it can charge faster than the battery depletes. so far so good though...

ill take some better pics and video coming soon!

hope this helped

Pretty ingenious using a single DIN HU. I'm ALMOST tempted to do this. But that'd mean I'd have to buy another N7

Can you control terrestrial radio from the N7? What about a usb thumb drive / iPod from the N7?

If I could retain all the current functionality of my current setup (AVH-P4400BT with steering wheel control), I'd love to go N7. MUCH cleaner/custom interface AND I'd get 'free' navigation tethered to my smartphone. <drool>

i cannot control the radio. but i do have tunein radio app.

thinking about getting the XM radio app too.

i believe you can use expandable memory with a usb thumb drive on the nexus 7 but i need the USB port for charging unless theres a way to use a hub.

can't use the N7 with external storage, unless XDA has figured a way around it

The headunit likely has a 500mA USB power capability... you can get 1A USB chargers most places these days... would be much more advantageous...

Very weird... I was using the stock bezel (dremmeled down on the back, and it was still 1-2mm too low on the top. Also I'm not using a head unit (weight savings!). Use Tasker for all your power/pause etc needs. Just tell it when powered do ___ and when not powered, go to bed.

I'll post up a full review of mine sometime this weekend. Very nice man.

This is only partially true.

Offline Google maps allows you to cache an area (open up maps, drag a box around the area you want to download) but it will only allow you to download 100mb worth of data per area. So you can't exactly precache a map of the entire state for example.

Offline Google maps are basically just an electronic version of a paper map.

You can get a third party app but it is extremely hit or miss (mostly miss).
