Default Car storage question?

I'm headed back to college in about a month.....just ordered a Zaino kit to get the wagon clean and detailed before I leave. I also have the subaru wagon car cover coming in a week, so clean and covered is already taken care of.

Just wondering what the best way to keep the car parked for about 7 months is.

My main question is whether to leave the windows cracked or sealed. I am in central Iowa, so the garage will get below freezing easily. Should i seal the windows and risk it geting musty or crack the windows? My main worry about crakcing the windows under the cover is damage to the stereo and/or computer while it is not driven for those 7 months. (Due to moisture) Also any input as to putting it on jackstands as so not to flatspot the tires?

Any input would be appreciated.

Either side plead your case...i'll use the knowledge well.

Thanks in advance
~Watts

Seal the windows and put some baking soda inside, just like a fridge. ALso close the outside air itake, set it to recirculate.

If you have jack stands, put it on them. Doesn't hurt.

Take out the battery and store it seperate unless someone will be starting it occasionally for you.

Change your oil before putting it back on the road.

I'd recommend having someone come start it up and let it run for 15-20 minutes once a month. It will keep the fluids from firming up and the seals intact.

Have them drive it around for that 20 min, using the brakes frequently, to take the rust off the brake rotors. Don't set the parking brake, or the pads may stick to the rotors.

Default make sure....

you keep a full tank of gas. If you don't the interior of the tank will fall apart. They also have gas additives to help with the preservation of the tank.

I just had my scooby in storage for 6 months with no prob. I did have a friend drive it for aboyt 10 minutes one a month. It was stored in a garage for the harsh Maine winter.

I kept the battery in, I did need to replace the batter when I got back. It was really weak.

Use rosin bags (like in baseball) inside instead of baking soda.

as they said clsoe of all the air inlets, but also the outlets, especially the exhaust so no little critters crawl inside.

if you do not put it on jackstands, just over inflate the tires by 10 PSI or so.

all good suggestions. i would also recommend putting on a very light coat of silicon grease along the top of the windows so that the rubber does not stick to it. or leave it cracked open if you have a cover for it.

and yah, when you have your family or relatives driving the car once a month or so, make sure you ask them to turn on the AC to keep the compressor and lines from seizing up as well.

good luck in school.
