Default Porsche Boxsters

Well tonight I had an encounter with 2 boxsters bringing my son home. He is a WRX fanatic! He plays Gran Turismo 3 day in and day out. He was the main reason I looked at thr Wrx and purchased one. Of course after I drove it I see what all the hype was about and fell in love. I was running 60 or so on the main highway when I seen headlights coming on strong ( thought it was a cop). Both of them passed me and pretty quick. My son said ," Dad you aren't gonna let them pass you like this are you ?)
I was in 5th and down shifter to 4th and didn't even have it to the floor. When I went around them I heard them down shift an tach up. They couldn't shake it! I was running about 110 at 5200 rpm I then went to 5th and played with them. My car is stock and I hear of all you guys adding these mods. Its fast enough as it is to me and couldn't even imagine it being as fast as some of you alls cars are. I never figured a Subaru would outrun a porsche. I wouldn't trade the car, moment, or the the enjoyment my son and I had for any money. Definately an impressive car. Just figured I would share this with you.

What's that term for fishing while the boat is moving forwards very slowly? Is it imbecile? No, that's not it...

Street racing is bad.... but I think everyone who drives a fast car has fallen victim to the "I wonder what would happen if..." followed by flooring the loud pedal

The thing to remember with Honda engines is that, while their horsepower numbers are often decent, they need to be at like a bagillion rpm to get there, and they aren't very torque-ey engines unless you are really flogging them.

It's really fun when someone driving car X tries to pass car Y which is a WRX wagon... and the wagon won't let them

Hey Recon, you know what, screw them. Don't let them take away anything from you. I am glad that you had a fun jaunt in your car with your son. When I was a kid, my father and I went out for rides in his vettes every sunday. Just him and I and we had a lot of fun, raced other cars at stop lights etc. I still remember the day he took out a Ferrari 308 with his '66 stingray. He has since passed away and those are some of my greatest memeories. All these pricks that are so quick to jump on another person need to back off and look at themselves and I bet they have done things that weren't exactly legal, or safe, but had a good time and it was memorable. WE ARE HUMAN AFTERALL.

I totally agree, if I had a son (or daughter) I would most definetely take them out in the WRX. My grandfather had a Dodge Charger that I absolutely loved when I was a little kid. You can be safe but still have a fun time.

I agree, and I'm glad they had fun!
The only problem is, well, forum rules.
I say melt the pavement! But tell about it in OT, 'cause the countdown to locking this thread has already begun.

When I was about 2 weeks shy of my 16th birthday, I was riding home in the Chevy Nova I bought as my first car - $800 of sweat earned greenbacks working in hay fields for the past two summers. My dad was driving and I thought we were moving along at a pretty good pace when I noticed him look down at the speedometer and get a real worried look on his face. "Son, I'm going to have to ask you to be real careful with this car." The speedo was reading 105.

If you ever get the chance, Recon, take your son along to a high performance driving school. You'll both have fun and learn a lot. Keep the shiny side up!

Hey, did you know that you can go to the track and have your son ride along with you? Racing on the street is stupid, take it to the track where it belongs. There is one everywhere, and dont say you cant afford it, its only like 10 bucks.

on of my best memories of my grandfather was when we were taking the old coronette out for a test drive after working on the carbs.

we pulled up to a mustang and lite em up...
later, we stoped for ice cream we were still grinning when he said, "now dont tell gramma about smoking that old ford"

I've had 2 Boxsters.

The first one a 98 Boxster with sport suspension and 17" wheels. Zero other options. Great car, seemed fast to me.

The Second one a 2000 Boxster S with sport suspension full leather options and 18" wheels. Awesome car, lots faster than the first Boxster.

Then...

I got a 2002 WRX. I was a Subaru fan for years but decided I would wait for a turbo model. When the WRX came out I bought one to replace my 95 Civic EX. The first thing I noticed when I dove it off the lot was that it was fast. Faster then my first Boxster and faster than my second Boxster. I still have that 2nd Boxster...

Now I have replaced my 2002 WRX with my STi. I drive it everyday. I drive the Boxster at night and on weekends when it's a nice convertible day.

Both cars have their place, but when it comes down to reality the Subaru wins out by a long shot. WRX or STi.

In terms of Quarter Mile, I thought the Porsche Boxter S > Subaru WRX.
