Default Transmission filter leak when cold

Hey all,

Has anyone had their transmission filter leak when the car is super cold (-45 C)? I noticed some on the driveway after I got home from a quick drive and the dipstick showed the fluid on low.

I went under the car and it’s saturated all around the filter and doesn’t seem to be coming from anywhere else. I’m guessing the gasket/seal on the filter just shrunk and some leaked out until the car warms up.

Only when someone has replaced that filter and used the wrong tool to torque the filter. I have also seen aftermarket transmission filters leak - most are nothing more tha very similar specification engine oil filters that aren't designed to be torqued as tight as this filter should be. There is a special tool used to torque (5.7 to 7.2 ft.lb.) those filters.
Form the FSM:
18.ATF Filter
A: REMOVAL
NOTE:
The ATF filter is maintenance free.
ST 498545400 OIL FILTER WRENCH

The only time you should replace that external filter is when you have overhauled the transmission due to internal mechanical failure.

Jiffy Lube's finest has been torquing engine oil filter that way since forever with rarely any issues at least until it's time to remove them.
