Default Replacing intake filter help?

2012 STI hatch. 6k miles.
Was just told by dealer that my intake filter was really dirty. I just ordered the PERRIN drop in foam panel filter. How do I open the stock airbox to install? Do I need to unscrew the maf sensor and remove the air intake guide? Any advice greatly appreciated.

also, at 6k miles, unless you live in the sahara desert, you dont need a air filter already.

On the contrary, I live in an area that is extremely dusty, and I can see the panel itself is pretty contaminated.

I can see the two clips holding it together but the cable for the maf looks like its blocking the box.

If I recall correctly when i replaced my filter on my 09 wrx I unplugged my maf, used a flathead to take off the hose clamps connecting the intake hose to the plenum and disconnected the whole box from the intake. I have only done it once, but I recall it being kind of an awkward maneuver to simply unclip the box and pull it in and out. And if your engine compartment is dirty like mine is it would be worth it to put the new one in without getting dirt all over it trying to geurilla it into place. Could be an easier way though. Hope it helped.

I'm going to take away your 4 digit member number. First off, your dealer deserves to be fire bombed. Air filters are replaced according to mileage and they pulled the patented Jiffy Lube "yer filter's dirty" trick and your ass fell for it. Second, foam filters filter about as well as you removing your current filter and stretching screen door material over the hole and sealing it back up. They are the WORST filters ever. Take that Perrin and chuck it in the trash and keep your current paper filter in there until your owner's manual tells you to replace it.
