Default To go E85 or not?

Hey guys hopefully I won't get flamed too much for this, but I really need some help deciding which way to go with my tune. My car is currently in the shop getting the last parts of my build installed. Ultimate goals for the car would be mostly track (time attack)use as I have another car I use as my daily. Originally I was just going to go with pump gas but after talking with a few people it seems that E85 might be a better option. I've looked into the pros and cons and it seems that the only real con is the decrease in MPG, but I wanted to get some insight from people who have actually used this on their car. I've listed the pertinent mods below. Thanks guys!

Cobb AP
Synergy 20g with 7cm hotside
TGV deletes
Walbro fuel pump
Spt intake
Catless turbo back
1000cc injectors
EBCS
Catless up pipe
Large TMIC
1 step colder plugs
I may have missed something but that's pretty much it.

I have a 91 and e85 on my 20g. Ej255. 350whp on 91 at 20 psi. 434whp on e85 at 24 psi. Yes mpg is less but the power difference is night and day. And it's safer to run e85. E85 burns cooler which cuts down on combustion temps along with u can run a more aggressive tune safely because of the higher octane of e85.

The power difference and the cooling abilities are definitely huge pros when going with E85. What kinda of mileage do you normally get out of a tank? Not that it's a huge deal(my daily is a Titan lol) but just wondering how often I will have to drive 10 miles away to get gas. Btw those are nice numbers! Where were you tuned?

i run e85 and pump on my car well. I switch maps via tephramod (i have an evo 9). So far i love e85, will continue to run it as much as i can.

as far as gas mileage goes. on pump i was getting about 19mpg hwy, and about 16 city. on e85 (this is only my 3rd fill up). im getting about 17 hwy and 14 city.

e85 pump is a hop and a skip away from me.

E85 for sure! I added an AOS and Perrin fuel rails to the build. Pomona will be the closest station to you. 20g Twin scroll on e85, 400 tq on a mustang dyno. Everyones spot on in terms of the gas mileage, however my suby isn't a dd.

i added a oil catch can too. But my car doesnt seem to burn any oil at all. Not like my suby did.

anywho, go e85. get 2 maps made. a pump and a e85 map. Trust us. Once you go e85 you wont want to go back to 91

yeah, i run it down to empty and put in a full tank of 91. and vise versa with e85. when your car is tuned on e85 u dont wanna run a diluted mixture if some gas is left in the tank. thats a big no no. haha

and yeah normally its about 3 mpg less. depending on how u drive lol

Yeah my car is not my daily driver either, my Titan is my M-F ride. After all is said and done my car will primarily be a track car. I thought about doing the AOS too but right now its not priority number 1.

I was wondering about the change in maps as well. After speaking with Yimisport I was told it was a big no no and that it might be a recipe for engine failure. At what point do you know its safe to fill up with E85 when you've been running 91 and vise versa?

I'm definitely leaning toward the E85 setup , and Yimi says that it will only cost me another 100 bucks for the map. A big thank you to everyone who's chimed in.

make sure you use gas every so often as the ethonal will clean everything and leave deposits and start to turn injectors black. the gas will clean all that up.

as far as switching between fuels. from what I've seen (I've seen a few tunners tune e85). they always run the gas as low as possible then add e85. that's how they tune it.

anywho when I switch fuels I keep an eye on knock sensor, make sure it doesn't knock when I switch maps.

Bump. Im looking into running e85

I was going to post into the e85 army thread.

I have a OS e tuned 02 wrx.
I am maxing out the td04 with DW650cc injectors and a walbro 255lph fuel pump. I have my tune set up for a torque spike that is not so smooth to redline. I know I should be asking a tuner for this info but I want to hear from you guys first. I searched but not many people are running just e85 and a td04.

I see I need some 1000cc injectors or will 650cc suffice.
I would like to switch fuels/maps every so often and I see that it fine just need to do some injector scaling. But since my limiting factor is the td04 on my current set up, I possibly gain a few hp by switching to e85. right?

How would be running cali 91 with such high flow injectors? Rough? or acceptable?
I would switch to stock dp and 91 for smog every 2 years. Does anyone pass like this with big injectors? (talking about the sniffer)

Im looking to run e85 for a slight hp bump and being safer on the engine.

Yeah u will need to change out your injectors.
Also if u plan to switch maps, accessport is the easiest way to do it, and easily mobile(not having to lug a laptop around)

Also, u will be fine running large injectors on 91 as long as its no cheapy company. Go with a good well known brand. they just need to be scaled correctly. And yes u will pass smog with larger injectors as long as they are scaled good n your tune is good.

Alright I will just have to get another e tune. I know there are many good tuners but I like to do some myself.

You did? Sweet. I like e85 I don't love it because its not abundant and mpg sucks. On the bright side I make ridiculous power lol

Sup buddy?! Yeah I ended up going E85 on my first tune at Yimi and I netted 345 whp and about 305 torque. After a FMIC and an EWG setup I retuned at FSR. The map that I had from Yimi put down 320 whp on FSR's dyno and after they tuned it I made 358. So by that logic I would be making around 378whp if I re-dynoed at yimi, mind you thats on a 2.0! But yes I agree the only drawback is the lack of stations that currently sell E85. Personally I just stock pile a whole bunch of it in my garage lol.

my legacy is on e85 and isnt my daily. so thats the only reason i run it all the time......i normally fill up and bring a few 5 gallon gas cans with me to stock up in my garage.

normally lasts me a month or so cuz i normally just drive my legacy around town and my 2000 impreza outback as commuter

I'm digging it. Its just I need to know how safe it is. I like the thought of lower egts. Im still on the stock td04 and engine.

Although I'm at the upper limit of safety on the stock 2.0 I have had no problems. And as stated above I'd trust my motor with e85 way more than 91 piss.

E85 is way safer than 91. Coolant engine temps, higher octane, so less chances of knock/pre detonation.

I made 434whp on my block, motor had 142k miles on it. I trust it on e85, way more then 91.

Do it! And actually there's a station in Ontario. And I believe they also just built one in rubidoux. A lot closer than P-Town.

If you have the Injector and fuel pump setup to handle the 20-30% extra fuel it's a no brainier! My car made 410whp on 91 and 531 on e85! Ill never go back... Unless I'm doing a long distance road trip!
