Again, this is the curse of this car. Countless items ordered from vendors have taken 3-4 times THEIR stated delivery time. Why not just be up front and say - "we really could care less about your project or our customer service, you'll get your stuff whenever we feel like getting around to it"
Do you have an ETA on when your car is going to be finished?

I've had several since 2010 - it's still a mystery.

Schedule for a kit car? Haha.... When I was building my Factory Five, I had it rolled outside after doing something and looked at it and realized it was street worthy. I drove it onto the trailer, grabbed all my documentation and check book and went to the state police inspection station to get the title. Before that, I was always focused on little things.......sandblast the suspension parts......bolt on the suspension parts......rivet on this piece.....etc

Default This car is stupid!

I am at the point again where I wish I'd never bought this car. It seems like it will never get finished.

The last two of the past three years I have had no time to build the car myself so I sought out other shops to complete the car. My check book has been open for any and all expenses but the car just sits for months at a time with little to no work being done.

If the money invested were instantly changed into a couple of new Can-Am Commander side-by-side UTV's I wouldn't be disappointed at all.

I know some people that do work via Facebook as well as personally...say the word and I'll hook up the contact info.

Last December it was moved to Turnin Concepts in Ohio for them to complete the wiring and finish the build. I plan to pick up the car sometime in September. I'm not certain it will be completed but after three years it's time to bring the car home to Georgia.

Sadly some people need adult supervision to get things done. And then when you get mad because of delays over a year, you are the dick. Just seems to be the way things are these days...

I'm not upset with TiC, I think they do good work and are a talented bunch of guys. They might even have the car completed by then, who knows.

This TR42 just seems to either be more of a challenge than expected or a project that doesn't fit the normal scope of work performed by most shops, which puts it on the back burner (or in my case completely off the stove ).

^^^I'd say its the later. You wanted wiring done but didn't take it to a wiring shop but to a Subaru shop. This is by no means to say anything bad about TIC or ability to do wiring (as I know firsthand they can) but it isn't there normal work. I love TIC, heck I'll be there wed-sun of this week...guess I'll get to check this out firsthand.

Wiring isn't really that difficult. I built my own harness to run a EJ257/EJ207 engine and installed it in a GC8 and I think the whole harness took about a month to build. My work wouldn't get me picked up by any F1 teams or anything but the car ran.

If you are giving a car to a shop to "complete" it, I would expect them to sub-contract out the work like most shops do.

To give you some background, TiC actually had discussions with Danny, the TR42 creator, about building a custom wiring harness and using my car to create the template for future TR42 wiring harness "kits". They were the ones that solicited their wiring abilities for Subaru projects. So, after I met with them about doing the wiring on the car, we also determined that they could complete everything else too and the plan was set.

Well if the wiring doesn't work out, you should check out a company that specializes in Subaru wiring harness like iWire.

The wiring isn't the problem.

Micah,

What exactly are the fitment issues and safety concerns?

Well please note that I am not an employee of Turn In Concepts nor do I speak for them. I do like this project and say all things from my experience on similar projects, as a member of SAE and as a consultant in the automotive industry.

Safety concerns:
-The fuel cell which is also baffle-less.
-The grade of fastener used on suspension. Though shotgunned, I'd still check the calcs.

Then just several fit and finish things:
-Radiator flex lines.
-The fact that the hardlines for the radiator needed to be 'massaged' to clear the parking brake.
-Why is the ECU running all the way to the front of the car when 90% of the wiring is the rear?
-A baffled fuel cell so that the car can turn and have power
-Couldn't tell if the front rocker arms were on bearings or not...so that is a question mark.

Not a fan of the fenders but that's a personal thing. Also not too keen on the MC's used but that's from personal experience. Maybe theirs will differ.

So mostly small stuff that could/is easily changed. Nothing major.

Not a fan of the fenders but that's a personal thing.(fenders are hand made from aluminum to fit the wheels - the TR42 kit had nothing available for wheels wider than 7")Also not too keen on the MC's used but that's from personal experience. Maybe theirs will differ.

TiC must not have filled you in on some of the detailed plans for the changes in red above. You wanna get shocked , you should go to Danny's shop and take a look at the Factory Five Daytona Coupe kit that he has from a customer. You would have a cow! Crappy welds, poor bracing designs, way, way less safe than my TR42 and they're a big company!
