i power wash mine regulary spray detergent on, use a scrub dish sponge to get the real dirty areas
if you have a cone or pod or otherwise Open air filter make sure to cover it in a bag, i also cover the alternator with a bag just to be safe. |

Been discussed numerous times. Run a search for "Engine Cleaning" or something to that nature and you'll pull up some great info

search for it as it has been covered many times. Most people use a degreaser like simple green. Does a good job and smells good too.

I use a degreaser like "simple green" and it works wonders! Make sure to cover your alternator and air filter!

Yup. I washed down my engine bay after covering the battery, alternator and fuse box with foil and spraying certain greasy portions with Simple Green.
BTW, there are a TON of threads about this. |

The easiest way that I've found is to use a pressure washer and presoak the engine bay. Then spray it down with Eagle One Heavy Duty degreaser and then hit again with the pressure washer. Once your done with the cleaning spray some Armour All on it and close the hood. Open the hood the next day and bam your engine is clean and shiny. Ask anyone who knows me and they can tell you that my engine is the cleanest around.

The search button keeps mine clean.
But really... Spray with a hose, simple green, rinse off. Dry, apply 303 aerospace protectant to all rubber/plastic. |

Many tire shine products also contain PDMS and would be good under the hood (for example, I've used a couple of different tire foams with success). However, some of the "extreme shine" type products are still solvent-based dimethyl silicone. Rule of thumb: If the dressing goes on clear and oily, best to avoid it under the hood. If it has a white, milky look to it (which ultimately dries clear), it's PDMS, and should be safe. Tort Last edited by TortoiseAWD; 09-20-2006 at 11:20 AM. |

In my experience washing out the bay is the best way to get all the heavy crap off, but i now use this stuff that i get at checkers/kragen/schucks* called "trim shine"
its mainly used for all the plastic molded parts like on the chvy avalance and honda element, but i use it for making under my hood look brand spankin new... the good thing about it is that its not oily/greasy like armor all and its ok if you overspray on the paint... i wouldnt leave it on their if you get some but its not going to eat the clear coat... honestly the best stuff i have found to make the eng bay bling... comes in a can, similar to a can of spray paint, its a black can white lettering and a yellow top, and i even think its called "trim shine"... you'll know it when you see it... hope this helped a bit... good luck |

Simple Green works well for me, but a few folks mentioned a Mr. Clean automotive product I think, a while back, that supposedly is as good or better....

ArmorAll does still sell "Extreme Tire Shine", which appears to be the type of dressing you'd want to avoid under the hood and for interiors (clear, oily, solvent-based dimethyl silicone), but their interior "protectants" - regular, low gloss, and high gloss - are all PDMS dressings with varying levels of the active resin. I'll have to give that one a try . . . I've had good luck with other Stoner products, but it never crossed my mind to try Trim Shine under the hood. Tort |

Honestly... I keep my engine bay clean by driving it in clear/sunny weather. Rain will seriously dirty up that engine bay. So... stay out of the rain. |

and mud gets rally cars dirty and ugly. they should just stick to driving slowly on pavement since drifting throws up nasty rubber too.
i use WD-40 and a rag. it removes everything bad, doesn't do anything bad, and you just wipe it up so it doesn't smoke and burn. easy, cheap, effective. |
