I had posted the "WRX shifting technique" thread in WRX non-technical forum, see 2nd page, aod's response. aod said to use the clutch for a longer duration to avoid that slamming noise, when you are going high revs from 1st to 2nd.

This is mainly caused by a heavy flywheel. If you upgrade to a lightweight flywheel, you will not have the driveline "thump" you are feeling now...

It's the Center diff locking.. You have to drive the car smoother to avoid this.... Lightened flywheel will not save you on this one... Being a better driver would.

All I know is, my 2.5RS with Minnam stage 2 used to do this until I got the lighter flywheel.... No more thumping noises...

Rear diff locking? Center diff locking? Uhhhhh guys... we have VISCOUS diff's - there are no mechanical parts in them to lock - AT ALL.

That noise you hear is purely driveline slop being taken up from the driveshaft, rear axles, trans... something, or maybe everything.

I drove my RS with it for a while, then it started going away after I put a lot of miles on it and was beating on it profusely. ***Not recommended procedeure for new drivers - learn to slip the clutch better***

8, with 15k of beating on my RS. it's didn't go away.. if it did anything they became more apparent.

Curious to what made yours go away.. besides the habit of smooth driving..

Heh, I drive far from smooth.

I don't know... I think I may have just beaten them right and they bedded in instead of floated about. I honestly couldn't say. *shrug*
