Thinking about upgrading the suspension on my 05 STi
I have only had the car a few weeks and she handles very well but... there is a bit too much body roll for my liking and a little more feedback would be nice too...
I'm thinking to get thicker, stronger sway bars and maybe a rear strut tower bar. 1. Will I see enough of an improvement to justify the $500 bucks or so the parts are gonna cost? 2. Can I install the sway bars by myself or with the help of a friend? (he has a lift) 4. Do I need end links? 3. Should I get a front strut bar too? Any input is greatly appreciated.

You can definitely do the install yourself if your friend has a lift. The benefit from the strut bars is supposed to be relatively small. Swaybars, though, are definitely good. Don't know enough about STi endlinks to say whether you need to upgrade 'em or not.

IMO, the stock STi suspension is pretty damned good right out of the box. For reduced body roll, heavier sway bars are the way to go. I would probably do both the front and back. Not sure how good the OEM links are or whether they should be replaced.
The other thing you should do is get a performance alignment. Subaru alignment specs are horrible - you can have postive camber on one side and negative on the other and according to Subaru, "be in spec." Get your front camber maxed out negative with zero toe, and since rear camber is not adjustable from the factory, get a reading on where it's at and set toe to zero. You will need to find a good alignment shop (preferably with Hunter equipment) that will set it up to your specs, not the horrid factory specs. Heavier bars + a good alignment = a big improvement! Don't forget to watch tire pressure as well. |

Good info above. Just want to add that the stock front endlinks are good enough but you should upgrade the rears.

OEM endlinks on the STi are a metal pillowball design in both the front and rear. I'd also recommend larger bars in both front and rear.

I just put tanabe GF210's on and got a mild performance alignment From www.munks.com , and i love the new feel. They set it up for as much negative camber in the front as they could "No camber bolts or plates" along with a little toe in. It made a world of difference.
Toe in will help with cornering, to much toe in and you will scuff the S**T out of your tires. Another thought might be to go with something along the lines of the GT spec fender braces in addition to an alignment. If you do the FSB and RSB wait to get your`alignment afterwards |
