turbo upgrade on my swap question.
I have a complete version 5 swap. It has a vf28 turbo on it, which I believe is orriginal. NorthUrsalia has a version 6 sti engine and his has a vf30. I am wondering if both of these turbos are orriginal.
Did a ver5 come with a vf28, & a ver6 came with a vf30? Also I am looking to get more power out of my ver5 what turbo should I go with and who should I have tune it. (has anyone done any upgrades/tuning to an older sti?) F1 dyno said they couldnt tune it! Franz isnt @ KTR anymore! TDC tuning never returned my email! Lachute tuning never returned my email!

Jeremy,
The vf28 is original to your v5. The vf30 is not original to his v6. The V6 got the VF-29, which is identical to the vf-28,except it got a titanium compressor wheel. The VF-30 is not much more different than those 2 turbos, except it uses more modern bearings. Personally, if you want a newer turbo and a little quicker spool up, then you could install a vf-30 and run it on your stock ECU. There's no reason for a custom tune unless you are trying to push it for max power. Though, if more power is all you care about, the VF-28 and the VF-30 have nearly identical peak power. A 16g or 18g would be a more appropriate choice if you are looking to get past 325-350chp, which is roughly the limit of your current turbo... |
