A "word" recognized by almost every individual with a form of English as their 1st language.... (P.s thats ALOT of people) we apologize for you lack of a social life. Sometimes you guys OD this **** and I apologize, but comon? if you can read it and clearly understand it 1st time around then their should be no need to criticize over it. I agree when it takes 2-3 times to understand, something should be said. But circumstances such as this need to just be left alone. |

Ah, but you couldn't leave it alone!
To paraphrase another active Subie poster who needed to rant: "... Is it just me or is social media making the new generation less resourceful? In my day, if you needed something, you made do with the means at your disposal or you learned the hard way what they were. Now, it's like no one has any common sense to problem solve; always turning to social media to beg other people to find the solution for them. The internet is indeed a gold mine of information (if you're able to filter out all the f'n crap), but for Pete's sake, don't always ask other people to dig it up for you! It's like their parents never taught them anything useful in real life... The good old ways are still viable! Smart phones are still a f'n PHONE, use it to make calls! Ever thought of calling the dealership, the auto parts store, the salvage yard, a knowledgeable friend, or daddy (heck, even grandpa)? Sure, you'll sometimes have trouble finding a competent person, but chances are you'll get your solution faster than waiting for the internet page to refresh. Also, ever tried attempting said repair yourself? You might screw up but at least you'll learn something. It's better than nothing and you'd be no worse than you were before!" This isn't just me finding fault with a misspelled word. I'm saying don't come to the party naked and ask for clothes and a ride home. If you can find your way to this thread to make your first post you should be able to do a little research and know that this is not the place to start to learn and then ask to be taught. You're still going to have to know where to find the OBD port... |

People take advantage of the Internet every day. But I see to much on here, of people being **** on for not putting a semicolon in the correct place!? A semicolon for christ sakes! It just can irritate me at times and I ranted it out on u. (My apologies) But I feel their was still a better way to simply state "have you done any research on this?" And when they reply with an obvious no, just explain that thats the only way their gonna learn... Im loosing my train if thought, regardless I just think certain people OD the whole "grammatically correct" and being a fellow nasioc member im sure you have seen it 1st hand. Guidance teaches, ignorance just causes more ignorance. |

Great Info
Great source of information. I did however have a question about the "need for engine management". If I am getting a short ram intake and cat back exhaust, would that necessitate a tune? I am not looking to run a whole lot of mods or spend much money so what would be the difference (in benefits/drawbacks) between those upgrades with and without a stage 1 tune.

Also, if you're not tuning yourself the price for quality standalone tunes aren't cheap and setting up from scratch is time consuming. |

I have AP3 running OTS W/EBCS stage 2 map on my 02 4EAT wagon. Runs fine, a little low on target boost, but I found a vaccum leak at turbo intake tube (new one in the mail) main concern is that I do want to dyno tune the car to maximize my power gains and safety. But the most reputable tuner in the area only does Open Source tuning on subies. Am I able to "save" his tune as a map to be used with the AP3 so I could still use the other OTS maps if needed?

Howdy all, i´m making my "to buy list", and as i head ecus are flashable i´m looking for a spare one, just in case...
What´s the difference on these ecus? http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/8vsAAOSwKIpWDPQI/$_57.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/Ho0AAOSw4HVWDPr0/$_57.JPG I mean, they are all for ej20 but there must be some difference i guess...the one on my car has a sticker saying "V3". Thank you |

"Read before you post". Excellent suggestion. Otherwise, for one with ten, BS posts you are one to throw stones.
I don't hate. I just like for these informational threads not turn to crap. I like for them to have content and be meaningful to everyone. I don't think it is hateful to suggest that ideas and thoughts need to be well-formed if you want to work on your car. Working on your own car is not a joke. You do work badly and it costs you lots of money and people could even be hurt if your car fails. It's also unlikely that you will get a lot of assistance when you show that you don't even have a basic grasp of the subject before you start asking for help. Tuning requires a significant amount of intelligence. If you have intelligence then you don't start out by asking dumb questions. That's the bottom line. |

Any input on the Megasquirt MSPNP Pro for the early WRX? I really like the MS3/MS3X combo I have on my Lotus and was looking to use one for my wagon.

I used MS on a '91 MR2 Turbo (SW20) and it was nice back then (~10 years ago) - low-cost options including both open source tuning and standalone ECU's have unfortunately outpaced MS by a pretty good margin, these days. |

The MS3 I have now is running closed loop boost and per-cylinder knock control. Might give the open source mods a look-

MS was a fantastic product for the money back then, but I'm just saying you no longer need to spend $3k+ to get these features on a Subaru - the dynamic advance and closed loop boost are already handled by the OEM ECU. Open source is essentially free, and the AP is under $1k... even half of that used. Feel free to experiment, but the changes necessary to get the MS running on a Subaru will make it a little annoying to switch back, should you ever want to (though they will make it easy to transition to open source speed density). You asked for any input from people that had used the MS - I'm probably 1 of maaaaybe 20-30 people on this entire forum that have ever touched a MS box, and this is my opinion. Worth what you paid for it. |

Thanks for the input, it's appreciated. And yes, the PNP box runs speed density Cost update, the plug and play box for the 02-05 WRX running MS-3 code is going for $1200, and the MS3 kit + MS3X+ harness is under $600 if you're a serious DIY guy. https://www.diyautotune.com/product/...05-subaru-wrx/ Last edited by snowrx; 04-21-2016 at 03:21 PM.
