Winter Solo II/ RallyX
The SCCA has looked into a RallyX program in years past, but could never find a reasonable place to hold such an event. Does anyone know where we could hold one that wouldn't charge an arm or a leg?
How many of you would be interested? Is your interest more curiosity or are you looking to make more out of it?

I'd be interested in participating but don't know of a location. How about a frozen lake somewhere? Winslow

Frozen lake wouldn't work to well.. It is too flat! lol...
Hrrmmm.. think the city would let us use Kincaid? hehe Let us know what are desireable attributes for a course of such, and we shall have a look around. I LOVE reasons to go drive.. RawCode |

Wherever you decide, I'd be up for it. My car is already beat up, and I'm planning to sell it anyway.
Oh, and my interest is to make more out of it. Anchorage SCCA club rally today, WRC tomorrow. |

I would be interested, but I'm with
AK_2002_WRX -- the fewer trees and poles, the better It would we be able to block off entire stretches of infrequently used roads to do this. There have got to be roads suitable for the job around the state, that could easily be "borrowed" for a day or two. As long as there were enough checkpoints so that you could stop someone if there was emergency traffic that need to come through, I couldn't see why local powers-that-be should have a problem. But of course they will. |

Actually, a lake wouldn't be too bad, but we would have to plow the snow into berms around the edge to keep from sliding off too far. Not sure how smooth the fairgrounds parking lot is, but that might be an option too.

Big lake would actually be pretty good this year. The snow is hard packed and there would be plents of spots. They already have tons of other races up there.

I understand that the Alaska Sports Car Club (ASCC) moved from Big Lake to Lake Lucille because there was too much misc. traffic around. The was an incident where a snow machiner went onto the track oblivious to the fact that they were having a race and almost made it his last ride. If there's good traffic control available in an out of the way location, I'd be all for it. The biggest issue anywhere is going to be safety.

How about Arctic Valley? I tried the road yesterday morning and the biggest thing would be falling off the side.

Only if I am activated. If not I work for the State of Alaska and answer to da Governor. And of course Ted Stevens because if it wasn't for him we would have some old ass crap.
Before we go OT on this. I have driven on the lake in Wasilla before a couple of years ago. I've seen cars parked on the ice while they snowmachined around on the lake. |
