VW Golf R 400
It seems VW can provide the Golf R with the kind of HP that Subaru won't for the STI.
MotorAuthority stated that: Regular Volkswagen Golf R not quite powerful enough for you? You might be in the market for the Golf R 400 then, a hotted-up version of the regular Golf R with close to 400 horsepower. The car is being unveiled at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show in China, but it's still a concept. The actual total is 395 horses (400 refers to its metric horsepower measurement, PS) and performance is impressive for a compact hatchback: Volkswagen quotes a 0-62 mph time of 3.9 seconds, and a super-sedan baiting top speed off 174 mph. In order to reach this kind of performance, the car's turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder has received significant tuning, and an electro-mechanical Haldex multi-plate clutch helps transfer the shove to each wheel. Volkswagen insiders suggest the car could weigh less than 3,100 lbs (over 150 lbs less than the current Golf R) thanks to a stripped-out cabin and carbon fiber panels. The latter manifest themselves visually with wider wheel arches--a nod to the 1988 Rallye Golf G60--and deep front and rear bumpers. New alloy wheels are also on the parts list, and the cabin features motorsport-grade seats. Sketched teaser images show the car in a special silver metallic paint shade with vibrant yellow accents--including the distinctive grille trim, painted different colors on Volkswagen's different performance models.

Well - they already did one which was 650 hp and had max speed of 201 mph
I think the likelihood of this getting into production is about the same |

While I see myself keeping my mkvi gti for another 2-3 years, I see my next vehicle being a Golf R. If this made it states side and came in at $40k, I would not hesitate to buy it... with an extended warranty. |

Probably right. At that point I would have a hard time not opting for a cpo'd M or 135.

is that what it would really look like or does VW release badass concepts only to water down the final version like Subaru did/does?
it does look sweet. |

I don't think it would be that high. $6k more than the R.
And yes I will buy one if offered here. Subaru doesn't offer it any more so I'd happily give VW my money for this. It will slay a STi. |

Also, that color scheme reminds me of the 911 Turbo 918 Edition:

I've driven both the MkV/VI GTI and VI Golf R, in USDM as well as Euro spec. You? Funny how blanket statements work. It's also 'their' - not 'there' - since we're playing the judging game. Quote:

Until you compare the badges and realize you're paying similar prices for similar performance but one is a luxury brand and the other isn't quite that. It would be similar to if the GT-R cost the exact same as a 911 Turbo.
