Just taking the quote for the work buy itself $2,300 is pretty steep. I've seen $1,600 tops for valve adjustment on the car, $800 at the low end. I don't think the valve adjustment will fix the issues, although you may still need to do it anyway...

On the other stuff it sounds like they are not doing proper diagnosis to start with. The problem may be something mechanical beyond the valves.

This was my big issue with the whole thing. They told me initially this issue was originally a bad plug, which I agree could be possible, but after it came back after about 10k miles - they told me the secondary air valve issue caused it, which IMO, has nothing to do with it... It's an entirely different system. Now they go and blame injectors/coilpacks to no avail so they jump right to a valve issue? I may take it to another dealer and immediately talk to the service manager. I've lost all faith in MetroWest Subaru at this point. I downloaded the service manual and read the diagnostics for these codes and they're skipping over a bunch of stuff between wiring, the knock sensor, etc.

Or some people just have nothing better to do than make uneducated guesses and swap around parts , potentially creating new problems. hhhmmmmmmm what to do.........
Oh, I see. The only way anyone can know anything about a car, or do any work on a car, is with the car's service manual. Other than that, they better take it to a dealership.

People like you are so arrogant and ignorant that it's just too damn laughable

I think you have enough reason to take it to another shop for a second opinion. It's often easy for dealer techs to simply throw parts at issues because it may have worked for them in the past in a high percentage of cases without a call back. However when an issue comes up that requires basic and true diagnostics they can not solve the problem.

Try another Dealer shop or an independent tech who specializes in Subarus.

Time for a second opinion rkjunior. Sounds like they wanna jump right into the heavy work and hope for the best. Ive seem it too many times before, stealership cant really narrow it down without major diag time so they shoot you a figure that they hope scares you away so your prob becomes someone elses. Ill bet if they were hurting for business, theyd figure it out for you real quick.

Thanks guys. I plan on taking it to another local dealer and talking to the service manager directly. I want to explain my situation and history, and see what they say. At this point, while the SAS Gold has expired, I believe this still should be covered as the P0304 goes back to the end of March and has yet to be resolved. I think my biggest issue is showing this to another service shop and having them agree with me.

Yeah, I got rid of the car after the P0304 never came back after a month of driving.
