So the wires are constantly hooked up and the switch acts like a resistor?

Can someone tell me how to get the **** obd plug unplugged so it can be put behind the dash piece allowing me to drive without fear of disconnecting the accessport?

I had to put a lot of force to get the plug off. That, and a flat blade and it eventually popped out. Thought I was going to break it but it worked out ok.

Oh and heres where I mounted mine. Made the bracket custom

And heres a pic of the back where I double stick taped a slider piece.

And from the driver seat:

You would think that the wiper button stick would get the way, but it really doesn't. I really like the location because its seriously right there and so you don't have to look too far away to the side to check. I usually have it on the boost gauge or something and it all works out.

*update*
Since a few of you guys have asked me about mine, here are a few closer pictures of the mount itself. I found it lying around my house out in the garage, but Im sure you can pick one up at a local hardware store. Sorry for the ****ty cell phone camera quality in advance

... no... the switch in a suprising turn of events..... works like... a switch... not a resistor. Hence no, the wires are not connected all the time.

You can buy a right angle plug that will get you closer to this scenario...

http://www.usbfirewire.com/ucablecam5b.html

I'm gonna buy one cause I don't want to move my OBD plug as I also use a tactrix.

Also considering an OBD extension and then stuffing the dongle in the dash... but my dash is getting pretty full these days with aftermarket DCCD controllers, heated seats, preliminary wiring for possible Mac Mini Mobile, and other various goodies...

Just thoughts.

edit:

After a few minutes of looking this looks like the best option

That way I can remount one of the Y's and still have my regular OBD plug, and have the AP connected hidden int he dash... weeeeeeeeee!

It is clipped in. A small flat tip screwdriver is your friend for depressing the clip actuator on one of these bad boys.

Get under there with a flashlight and check it out. Any good technician, such as yourself, will figure it out with a little bit of investigating.

HAR!

i keep mine at home.. or if im using in my car and get out.. in my pocket it goes..

crackheads will steal it thinking is some sort of nintendo game, or cell phone or who knows...

once stolen you's gotta buy a whole new unit so i understand. and if you switch maps with it.. say from e85 to 93 (as i do) then you are outta luck...

also unless you use one of the extension mountings for the odbII port or push it up inside the dash.. its not impossible you will break the dongle.. or worse.. break the subaru odbII port itself you i understand is expensive to repair..

Wow! Not a single person used the Backetron hard mount? I'll have to get a picture to show off. I didn't know people were using all kinds of crazy things.

First you buy this: (http://www.bracketron.com/index.php?...catid=2&pid=11)

Then you buy this: (http://www.bracketron.com/index.php?catid=5&pid=40)

I found both for cheaper at Advance Auto and on Amazon. It might not look like it in the picture, but that second one squeezes down to the size of the AP and holds it very firmly with room for the USB cable.

So you take the holder form the second link and it mounts directly on the bracket from the first link. It looks almost factory! Pics to come later tonight. My dash is in pieces. I'm installing a switch for a remote mounted radar detector.

I really like your setup but the links aren't directing to the actual bracket / holder. I'm wondering what bracket you actually use (I can't figure it out from your pictures). Any help?

Where are you guys hiding the coiled up extra wire? and what is the easiest way to route into the vent on the driver's left without pulling the dash apart?
