Impreza 2012 keys look like this, almost like the one you posted only without screws.

Ah, that is the one I had originally gotten from eBay. It should be extremely easy for you then. You won't have to reprogram anything. Just assemble it into the flip shell and you're done!

Impreza key or Legacy key? If you have a WRX you need a Legacy key.

No. They aren't. The new Impreza remotes won't work.

Ok so judging by the first post on this page, it looks like the 2011 Legacy key I ordered from eBay is actually a 2012 Impreza key and the remote is not going to work. I thought I might be in trouble when I saw the non laser cut key. Oh well, it looks like I'm back to square one, trying to find a 2011 Legacy key...

Are you positive about that?? The FCC ID on that Impreza key pictured is the same as the 11/12 legacy keys that we all are using.

To the poster above me, I think you may be ok. Try to program the transponder and see if it works.

FCC IDs may be the same but it may not work. I would too say try to program out before giving up on it.

On another note, what makes the valet key not be able to open the globe box or trunk? Is it the way it's cut differently from the others, or is the chip in it different than the others? I'm leaning more towards cut but I just want to make sure.

I had a 2012 Impreza key. The FCC ID matches but the insides of the remote look different and there is no 8 digit code so you can't program it. I sent mine back and got a refund. Then I bought a Legacy key and it worked great.

The valet key won't open the glove box due to the cut of the key. It looks like the tip is slightly wider, so it won't fit in at all. It might be easy enough to file down and make it work but I haven't tried.

Ok, so I was able to return the 2012 Impreza key I originally bought on eBay and thankfully I was able to find a 2011 Legacy Key on eBay today. This one is laser cut and has the screw on the back so I'm 100% confident I bought the correct key this time. All I need now is for the switchblade housings and my car to arrive and I should be all set!
