2000 RS swapped 94 EJ20g Help Needed!
I am currently helping a friend of mine swap in a new motor into his 2000 impreza rs.
Details: -94 ej20g -wrx subframe -harness sent to iwire My problem is my friend said his OE manual transmission will bolt right up. With both engines on stands i noticed; the OE usdm transmission obviously has more mounting holes for the trans. The JDM one does not. I would assume the JDM transmission has less holes for that reason.. Problem is: There is one hole missing on the ej20g for the starter to be threaded into. Whats the common fix? Tap the hole on the transmission and get shorter bolt? Also; noticed the two pins of the bottom of the engines were different. I can get a photo later but on both motors (usdm and jdm) have locator pins; on the JDM one.. seems to be almost a quarter of an inch further. If this is true; which im sure my measurements arent off; i assume the '00 transmission wont bolt up to the ej20g? Please help and correct me if i am wrong..

For the starter, you will just drill and tap a hole. The older trans have a stud on the transmissions if I remember correctly.
In regards to the pins you may want to post up a picture, but just make sure you have the pin on either the trans or the engine, not both Really, you can make it work with the 2 studs on the bottom of the engine, and the 2 bolts on the top plus the bolt for the starter. Any EJ series transmission will bolt up to any EJ series engine. Hope this helps! Thanks, Rick |
