A while back I posted asking the forum about "wife comfortable" suspension options. Quite a few folks replied suggesting I try FEAL. Called them up and asked about the stock revalve option... sounded good, but they didn't have cores so there was going to be quite a bit of downtime for the car involved, and it's my wife's DD. As a result, I decided to buy the 441 coilovers.
Guys - thanks for the advice. Straight out of the box, they are set to lower the car quite a bit, but it looks fantastic. I did end up adjusting them higher by about a half inch to get some ground clearance and control arm geometry back, but that's it. There are 30 clicks of adjustment, and they arrived set in the middle at 15.
These coilovers transform the car from a bouncy and annoying ride into a very enjoyable car. Right after I put them in, we headed out on a trip from the Denver area down to Phoenix... taking all back roads. Awesome... the ride is 200% better, and the handling really didn't seem to be compromised at all. Better still is that this is on the 15th setting, meaning lots of room to go in either direction AND they are top adjustable so it can be done in minutes.
It'll be interesting to see what sort of lifespan they have, but my immediate impression is that if you're seeking an improved ride, the ability to lower the car tastefully, and maintain the car's handling characteristics, the FEAL 441's are an excellent option to consider, IMHO.
Still the Sti proves incapable of dealing with high-speed trips without shedding front end plastic parts at random, but I'm getting used to that now.
