Hanging with a Mustang GT tonight... (long)
Yes it is true...
He came up behind me on RT.99 heading towards Memorial Drive, and passed me on the left after I thought he was going to rearend me. So I decided to mess around. Before I go any further, I have to say this is the dumbist thing I have ever done (besides posting it). I am not proud of it by any means. Here is the deal. Rt. 99 is very bumpy/twisty, and crowded this time of night (although it was not tonight). So he got ahead of me, and I decided to catch him. The road dips down under an overpass and turns a weird left turn. I caught him through the turn, and he got in the left lane (2 lanes here). We come up the ramp and I am on it, right next to him. When we get to the top, the roads merge, and I have to go right to get to the Memorial drive spilt, and so does he. I out brake him after passing him in 4th gear. I slow for the yeild onto memorial. Now I am in 2nd gear and on it. I think he did not expect me to take off so quick. From the yeild, we head under a bridge, long swooping curve. I am determined not to get passed. He never got passed me until I hit 4th gear coming out of the turn (straight part), where he jumped on it. Then it was hard on the brakes for both of us, to stop at the light. He turned left and ran the (yellow/red) l ight. I am not proud of myslef for doing this stupid act. But you should have seen his face when he looked at me when he passed me the first time, like I was some wanna be rice boy. We'll, I wish I could have seen his face when I cought him and made it to the merge before him, and hung with him through 2nd and 3rd gear (from a roll). This was definetly a GT. Dual exhaust, V8 sound, and some GT stripes along the bottom of the car. It was a good feeling. Now I feel kind of stupid for it, but thought I would share it. Please do not flame me like I have done to folks in the past. I know I was stupid. I won't do it agian. I just wanted to share my "this is a Subaru RS, thats right dumb ass" story. Paul G.

Just think, if you were in a WRX, he would not have caught you in 4th! But better done on the track.
Recently in Australia a V8 tried to keep up with some WRXs - we were not going too fast (truthfully) and this driver managed to mount the gutter and plow into a light pole (no one hurt - thankfully). I did not even known he was trying to keep up until I heard car tyres skidding (or should I say screaming) for about 5 seconds before impact - heavy oversteer and the car had turned sideways. Car hits the gutter, air dam disintergrates, bumper flys off, side panels crumpled. He was not to pleased as another WRX driver saw him picking up bits and pieces from the road throwing them onto the sidewalk. regards Michael Hains |

We were not going very fast either, it is very tight area. It was just fast for the road type, and location. I would be surprised if I hit over 65 mph. I was not looking of course, just keeping my eyes pointed way in front of me.
Like a said, a bad idea to do, but everyone is stupid once in a while. Paul G. |

If you were in 4th at under 65mph, it's no wonder the guy passed you!! 3rd is good up to about 80mph, 4th up to 100mph or so.
Oh, and just to throw a wrench in the works, *most* GTs don't have any stripes low on the side. *Most* of the Mustangs I see with the lower rocker panel stripes are V-6s. However, you said it was dual exhaust and sounded like a V-8, so I'll trust you were right. There are pretty easy dual exhaust conversions for the V-6s, but they still don't sound like an 8 does. It was definetly a GT. I have seen the car around, and the stripe says GT in it. and it has GT rims. It is a Cobra wannabe package. There are these three guys around that have GT's, there own little club. They drive around like jerks all the time.

See what I mean Paul - sometimes you can't help it. I was messing with a rustang this morning in the rain. Here's a hint for the Ford guys - "Slicks only work at the dragstrip." This guy was all over the road AND trying to keep up with me! A Ford Tempo with good rain tires could have beat him - Kris
