Default Help: car runs like crap after intake install

Just installed some eBay intake and now my car barely runs and barely stalls. Stutters when you start to drive. I have BOV installed to.. I reset my ecu and still sounds like crap. Any suggestions?

Take it off and put your stock one back on that will not work without a tune

Go back to stock airbox and ditch the BOV.

You need a tune when you upgrade your intake. I'd baby her until you get the stock intake back on there.

At first, I actually wanted to call "troll" on this one. I don't think that's the case however.

Go back to your stock intake. The only intakes I'd run without a tune would be the Cobb SF or SPT for the 2002. A random eBay ones is bad. Not to mention, who knows the filtering properties.

Also, ditch the BOV. The stock one is just fine.

I'd highly suggest more reading before spending more money. You'll thank me later for saving money on mods and a new engine if you continue down this path

Good luck!

Not to sound like an idiot but I am, could the map sensor effect it in anyway? I tried to get it on all the way but it just wouldn't sit in the hole so I just screwed it on as far as it would go and didn't seem like there was any gaps I could see....

You are probably talking about the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and it is probably your problem. You can quickly confirm that by disconnecting its wiring from the engine bay wiring harness. If the car runs fine, then you've installed your MAF sensor backwards. MAF sensor installation is counter-intuitive because its wires should be pointing to the front of the car even though its wiring harness connector is in the opposite direction.

So the MAF sensor isn't even installed correctly? That's a problem.
Ebay intake? Also a problem.
BOV? Problem.
Contrary to others, using an intake on an 02/03 without a tune isn't entirely a problem.

Resetting the ECU doesn't help anything, and will now take longer to learn parameters.

The MAF sensor is pointing forward... Does it make a difference if it's not sitting right? If I disconnect it, won't it not do anything different to how the car runs?

I may be wrong but if you disconnect the maf and it runs better it is because the ecu has preset parameters instead of getting interpreted air data from the maf for finer a/f mixtures.

Everyone is giving you great advice, time to start following it!

Remove the Ebay intake, and BOV if you can. Your car will thank you for it.

I'll try it when I get back home from my oral sergeon appointment and see if it makes a difference.

Unplugged the MAF sensor and started it up and ran perfectly fine. I think it's just not sealed right.

Sell your car and buy a Honda, you can slap the finest eBay finds on them and still run it like a champ.

ditch the crappy eBay intake and take the bov off too. you need a tune for both of those, unless it's a cobb or spt intake

Damn you just did two things that will blow up a Subaru turbo

Put stock intake and bpv on and call it a day.

unplugging the MAF doesn't solve the issue of altered airflow due to intake changes. On a stock car the stock ecu can deal with an unplugged MAF. On a car with breathing mods, unplugging the MAF and saying "hey it runs great" will end in one of my favorite Saabrally.com sayings:

"It sounded terrible, then the (engine) noise stopped, and so do the moving (of the car)"
