Question HELP HELP! strange bucking!?!?!

Ok im completely new to the world of the wrx.... I bought one with a 123,xxx mi. on it. I had driven it a bit before buying it and before registering it. Today i took it out, now that i have legal plates, to figure out what side wheel bearing in the rear was ****ting out and when i got on it in second gear, right around 3500 rpm it was bucking fairly hard. I shifted up to third and same thing. moments later it threw a check engine light. it flashed a few times and then went away. few minutes later it came back. however when i stopped at a stop sign and got on it again to see what would happen it was smooth as silk, moments later the bucking was present again. Now i know the previous owner personally and he had just replaced the O2 sensor days before selling it to me. the car otherwise has no real issues other than the wheel bearing. So my question is before i bring it somewhere to have the code checked does anyone have suggestions or thoughts as to what this could be? i was all ready to go enjoy my new toy this weekend

You need to pull the code.

edit: Nevermind, it's just speculation until that code is pulled.

any aftermarket air intakes? sounds a bit like a bad read from the mass airflow sensor.

The flashing CEL usually indicates a misfire bad enough that catalaytic converter damage is taking place. This can be caused by a number of issues including front O2, spark plug, coilpack, loose wiring, etc.

As Audiosavvy suggested the code would be beneficial in tracking it down.

well i did some research which was difficult due to the fact the old owner is in china.....but this is what i found out.....the ecu is flashed for a stage 2 tune. Only problem is before he sold it to me he put the stock exhaust back on the car. The aftermarket exhaust he had was a catless from the turbo back. My buddy whos also a member on here seems to think maybe its getting screwed up from that. gonna read the code tomorrow.....

Your car can compensate enough that I wouldn't worry, unless he had larger injectors or something else MAJOR tuned for.

Get that code pulled stat!
