Default Knock after florring right away

I have a 2.5 2002 Impreza Outback with an Automatic. Ever when I stop on a stop sign and slam the accelerator right after braking i get a knock from the valves or cylinders. Im not sure, any advice on how to prevent that and is there something wrong with it or its just how the engine was designed. Thanks

Thanks, another question if I put Premium does a 2.5 see the difference or is it just a waste of money. Is it better for the engine?

waste of money, i only run 89 because i have a 9.6 lb flywheel and it'll throw misfire codes if i don't run it.

The engines are designed for the lower octane fuel, so I'd keep with things and put that in. In my mind, it can't HARM it if the engine is designed for it.

It eliminated it when I switched to 93 from 87 or even 89, but my mileage suffered pretty harshly. I think during routine driving I couldn't even get 18mpg.

Thanks for the feedback. Since I have the car I am running 89 octane fuel, but I guess 1 step higher from what the manual sais is always better . Now that's an extremely dumb question. Which gas stations have the best fuel, in Illinois.

I am not sure if you meant a "knock" or a "click" sound.
When you say "knock", I was thining there is a "engine ping".

I suspect you are talking about the TDC's "power mode".
TDC is Subaru's automatic AWD system's brain. When there
is a sudden deep depression of the gas pedal, it kick into the power mode. And the ECU will override its normal fuel map.
