For your goal the vf39 will be the cheapest to go with and you will not take much of a hit in spool time. You will however get smoother more sustained power from the 18g since that turbo is good to 350+WHP. The 18g will introduce some lag but will work much less than the vf39 would. If price is not the issue then 18g would be my choice.

everywhere ive seen the vf39, vf43 and the 18g are just over a grand brand new. Is the vf43 a good compromise as far as less lag than the 18g but a little more punch than the vf39?

vf39 can be found used with low miles for $250-$350 on the forums. The vf43 can make about 5-10 more WHP and has a larger wastegate so there is no boost creep issues with it.

What kind of power increase if any, for getting a protuned Stage 2? Dont need to be exact just ball park figures.
Currently mods are 3inch "ish" Catted turboback. Cobb OTS stage 2 tune. Looking for a 90 map, and map that takes advantage of torco. |

It will all depend on the car and what it will tolerate with the torco in it. Its hard to say without trying but I have tuned some angry cobb ots tunes and picked up enough gains to tell the difference. Overall its not just about the peak numbers, pro tunes can help drivability, level out spikes or dips, fine tune fuel, and smooth out power curves. You can actually have a faster car in the end even without specific peak gains.

Re: Ask a tuner...
Hmmm good to know. Just debating if I should wait until I get another part or just go with the tune now.

Bring your car out one day, I will give you a free eval. In one 3rd gear run I can paint a pretty detailed picture of your tune at that moment. Plus we can look at the ECU learned data as well. Most likely your ok with what you have but we don't know unless we look.

I tuned a built WRX hybrid this weekend with the new 20G-xt(10cm2 hotside), what a nice turbo. Really quick spool even with a front mount. We brought the boost up to about 18.5psi and managed to max out the MAF! We knew that was coming but we wanted to get a basic tune down before scaling the bigMAF. Thats some serious air flow for that low of a boost setting.
This car even at low boost started to get me pretty excited! I would say were going to see a very fast WRX at the track this year...Transmission allowing...lol |

Fuel Gauge Issue
My name is Tony, new to the site, just bought a 06 black sti, had it only a week. The fuel guage show full when I fill it up, but only goes down to half full as I use the gas up, I know Im putting in about 15 gallons each time I fill it up. But it onlyu goes down half way, Just wondering what this could be.
Also on a side note, saw a whole bunch of sti's cruising around dimond this weekend, wondered if it was any body on this site. Thanks Tony |

He stopped by when we were meeting up on dimond for the pics and told us his meth wasn't hooked up so he couldn't romp on it. Was just wondering if he got it fixed yet.

Ahh well. You know me I will push the water to everyone since I swear by it. I see the EVO guys are knocking you around a bit...lol...Don't worry we will have you running much faster without breaking your internals unless your serious about a build soon. If so we might as well head for the danger zone and see how long it lasts!

It requires mechnical modification as well as tuning. If you had drive by wire I could do some little tricks. I would avoid anti-lag unless your going to be doing short autox runs with it or rallyx. Won't help at the track any more than just a flat foot shifting mod.
Most anti-lag methods are very hard on the headers and turbo. A more fun thing is maybe spray some NO2 pre-boost right onto the cold side of the turbo! |

Marlon,
Do you happen to have a twin that posts for you sometimes? One day your parting out the next day your selling and after that your building up the same car. |

What is a fast spooling turbo?
Something good for rally/autoX. I don't need a **** ton of power, just enough to make a difference. |
