Exclamation I need some help and some answers

OK, so I have a 1995 Impreza LX with the 2.2L engine and auto trans. I'm having fun with the spark plugs. They have popped out of the engine. The subaru dealer tried something coils to fix em. How common of a problem is this? Have any of you had it happen? Its quite annoying having this happen when you hear that they are supposed to be very reliable.

As in the threaded part pulled out of the engine? The dealer installed thread repair "coils" ? I think about the only way you could "remove" the threads on your heads is to seriously over tighten the spark plugs.. or cross thread maybe... sounds like there was a problem created by a mechanic at some point, and therefore not a subaru problem, or I am not understanding what you mean.

I know a guy who had that happen on a Chrysler 2.2 Turbo II. He heard a bang and the engine died...when he opened the hood there was his sparkplug hanging on the plugwire with a nice chunk of the head (the threads) around the sparkplug. He had a mechanic drill out the hole in the head and then he drove a ring with new threads into the hole in the head (heh) so that the plug could be reinstalled. There's a name for the thing but it escapes me. He never had good compression on that cylinder after that, but it kept it going...

My 96' 2.2LX had exactly the same problem at 115,000 miles. The dealer put some coil in there to fixed it and was not that expensive. The dealer charged me $500 for the work but that also included a new timing belt, battery, water pump, 4 spark plugs, and acc. belts.
