What is everyone's opinion of doing this? If you don't know what I mean, it is where you remove the lens and paint the perimeter of the "chrome." Similar to Black Beastie's car.
If you have done this, how did you prep the "chrome?" I am assuming it was sanded.

jcme262 How High?
How high did you put the heat on and how long did you leave it in there? I've heard bake at 225 for 5 minutes and your good to go. But I'm not to sure about doing this... With my luck I'll have to sell my soul to this guy for some STI LHD replacements!

I know don't freek out during the process I did that for you. Do one at a time and I kept checking so it was more like 225 for 12 mins or something like that.I was up late and wired on coffee not a good idea but everything turned out, also take your time with the paint process 3 coats min. jc

If I had cheaped out, I would have gotten a RS, not a WRX.

I am not being mean. It's just that I was going to get an RS, but then decided to bite the bullet and stretch out my expense on a REX. Not much room left over for everything I would love to buy for my car. Basically, I got the WRX and can do no more (for now). Almost got the wagon (to live in) jk

ah... good come back. well the DIY mod for the OEM lights are a great and cheap alternative to the more expensive projectors. i guess if you have a couple of hours to kill, maybe you can perfect the steps to blacking out your stockers. good luck and make sure you use alot of silicone to seal out the moisture.

Does anyone else have any other recommendations when doing this?
Do your blinkers have to be amber (in MO)? Has anyone painted the entire piece without masking it off? If so, do you have pics? |

When I did the headlights on my friend's civic we used a heat gun and pried it part using a screwdriver. Haven't tried the oven trick, though.
Anyway, to prep the chrome part I sanded it down to the bare plastic then used the high temp paint from autozone. Make sure you use light coats to keep it from running. It's fairly easy, just a little time consuming. Probably a good idea to have a second set of hands. |

use the oven it is so much easier and IMHO there is less evidence of tampering
