....Then you'll love Autocross / Solo @ The Maverick Center. MARCH 19th&20th "Why?," you ask?

Well, good question.

It's cheaper. $35 for new drivers for 1 day OR $60 for two days of racing.

It's Closer! Maverick Center is right in town.

It's fast paced. Sure, your not going to hit 115mph on the straights... (cause there are no straights), but you're going to get just as much of a rush as running a Winter Cross track day.

You're MUCH closer to the action!

We time ALL your runs... ACCURATELY! You will be able to see ALL of your runs. Morning and Afternoon... and they ALL count. Best time wins.

Rules are Similar. Cones are a 2 second penalty and off course is a DNF.

You will get similar run time! On average we get 8 runs a person and each run at this venue is usually over 50 seconds (Last event was 1'06" for one of the fastest cars there.)

And the cherry on top of all of this is.... If anyone... and I mean anyone driving anything... (Except for an ariel atom... oh, and you have to drive the same car for the entire day... no car hopping), can beat my raw time (including cone penalties) on NON-R Compound Street tires which are >140 Treadwear... I'll give you $20 towards your entry fee. Or refund $20.. because you've already paid at that point...

(I say non-r compound because I'm running Hankook Rs3's @140 Treadwear... got to keep this fair after all... )

Oh, and I'm going to be in a N/A 2.2 liter car... should be easy for you...

When registering online non-members and first time autocrossers can use the code 'NEWB' at checkout to receive the free weekend membership.

URSCCA Solo Director

P.S. If your still on the fence... and for some reason can't afford $35 bucks... you're more than willing to swing by, sign a waiver, and take rides with people. It's completely free to ride along. I'm always more than willing to give people rides.

can we bring our own passengers if they sign a waver?

they will have the same safety precautions as the driver, appropriate harness and such.

Of course. They just need to sign the waiver, wear a snell 2005 or greater helmet (We have loaner helmets), and wear the wrist band at all times. Most people are driving their "daily drivers," and don't even have harnesses. We don't have to have the same requirements that Miller does to have our insurance sanctions.

Actually, thanks for bringing this up. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed racing the Winter Cross series... however, I would have loved to ride with some people.

you don't need any other safety requirements to race at wintercross, wide open wednesdays, or lap battle. seatbelt, front 2 windows down, and a helmet are required. of course further steps are recommended.

I wasn't referring to car requirements... Sorry for the confusion. Can you ride with someone on Wide Open Wednesdays?

The optional passenger is the difference regarding insurance requirements that I was talking about.... of course, take everything I say with a grain of salt.

Don't get me wrong either... I'm certainly not trying to steal anyone away from Miller. Miller is one of our partners and we literally love them. We have about 8 events scheduled at Miller this year. I've done my best to schedule our events around Millers events to avoid competition between us....because I love MMP.

Auto X / Solo is just a gateway drug for Miller. We're like the "Spice" of the race world... The more people that come out and do this... the more people that come out to Miller.

Oh, one more thing... some of the fastest drivers out at Winter Cross are avid Auto Crossers. Talk to these guys... Auto-X is where they learned their moves.
1. Gordon Anderson (Always wins front wheel drive)
2. Rod Derrick (you know this guy)
3. Rod Golsan (yep him as well)

Oh, on a side note... I just talked to my co-driver... we're not going to have the new Rs3's in time for this event because they've been back ordered... I might very well be on some 360 tread wear Nankang tires....

It depends. If the CRX is still around I'll race it, if not, I'll be in D/S.

I still have the Miata. I've kept it because I keep thinking about MPRA but that's all I've done so far, think about it. It's also so cheap to run. Brakes last 3/4 a season. Tires are much longer lasting too. It's also a blast to drive.

Wow, that was an asinine comment, especially for you Jason.

I'll see you there Saturday Mike, sorry the RS3's are on backorder, I've received two requests this week about those tires and when I called Hankook they said most sizes are on a 30 day back order. Seriously, WTF? They produce a hardcore, AutoX specific tire but don't stock it at the beginning of the season across the nation.

Come oooooooooooon Tyler! You can't tell me you like your 2 min of driving time. Then the rest of the day picking up cones. While I think autocross, wintercross and wide open weds are good to get people through the gates. It's just not for me. But..........maybe I should have just kept my mouth shut. Sorry Tyler.

So is it like every other autox I've been to where you spend 98% of your time working and 2% having fun? Whats the schedule like? What do you do when your not in your car? I did some autox in Albuquerque growing up, and even if it was free I wouldn't go do that again.

Well, technically... yes. But it's more "fun time" then you get at a Winter Cross event. We typically run 8 runs a day vs 6. We time all 8 runs so you know exactly how fast your "fun" was all day long. Have you done a WinterX? You work more IMHO than you do at a AutoX... not to mention it's colder... and generally more windy.

This cannot be compared to a full track day. That's why the price is not near the cost of a full track day. I'm just talking Wintercross vs. Auto X. They mix perfectly because the seasons are opposite of one another.

Apples to Apples, this is more run time, more turns, more slides, more off camber, more on camber, more elevation change, more people, and less money than a Wintercross. I believe that's all I've been trying to say.

If it's not for you, it's not for you. That's ok. Although, I will say that I actually enjoy working the course / hanging out and talking cars with people almost as much as the racing. It's a social race event... It's all about having a good time and pushing yourself and your car to the limit.

Well said Mike. Another huge plus is the extreme car control you learn in extreme circumstances.

but winterx laps are 2-3 times as long as an autox run. so for double the money, you get a little more than double the drive time in seconds.
and this last one, group 2 got 7 runs total.

but it is more technical and you will probably learn a little more at an autox than a winterx.

Don't do the winter things. I'll think about it since I have some friends going, but I rather just do full track days.
