Got new tires for the Forester yesterday. Dry rot is a hell of a drug.

Did the headlight reconditioning dance, and cleaned the roof tracks where I will be installing factory rails. New tires went on Friday and the CEL went out on Saturday, super win! It keeps spitting the rear exhaust sensor, but it goes off whenever my wife is in the car with me.

Finished scraping up the sound deadening material from the rear seat, transmission tunnel, and under the front seats. If hearing protection wasn't a requirement for the RS, it certainly is now. I'll need to pull the dash to get up there, but that won't happen for a while. Though, sooner than later might be nice, as the stuff just chips off the metal, unlike in the summer when it is a hot, gooey mess that gets stuck to everything.

Also took the rusty ECU cover off, scraped away all the rust with the angle grinder, and painted it with Rustoleum rubberised coating. Thanks to a leaky front windshield, the carpet helped to rust out the bottom portion of the plate quite nicely. Now, it doesn't look quite as bad.

I need to tidy up some wires on the passenger side and install the seats so it'll be road worthy again. I'll eventually cut out the stock seat mounting options and get some specialty mounts welded in, but probably not until I have a second fixed back seat ready to go in the passenger side.

This weekend:

Installed GrimmSpeed hood struts. Possibly should have had someone hold the hood/bracket for me because bracing them against each other with one hand, installing bolts with the other and supporting the hood with my head was awkward.

Installed TiC/MAW brake MC brace. Hey! How many generations of car and platform later and this install STILL sucks. Stupid bolts are impossibly to reach with a ratchet and my ratcheting wrenches were too fat. Doesn't appear to be any deflection of the MC/firewall anymore, so yay!

Installed shift knob by STi. Somewhere around 60-90 grams heavier; shifts feel much more assured and resistance from the synchros/gates is completely minimized now.

This weekend:
RCE Yellows, Group-N tranny mount, Kartboy shift link bushings, cross member braces, exhaust hangers. and replaced a leaking exhaust gasket

Thanks UncleTattoo and RobotsKillHumans for doing the suspension while I bled and worked under the car.

Bushings!

That brace is a PITA to install. I also dropped a wrench under the car while installing it. Undertray means the stupid wrench never hit the floor...I had to slide my arm between the fuel line next to the tranny (hard line) and get the wrench out that way. Couldn't reach it by hand, so I had to use my Channel Lock pliers as an extension. I really despise installing MC braces. FWIW, make sure you adjust preload BEFORE installing it as I don't see a way to adjust it afterwards since there's no lock nut.

My hood dampers were BEAT up. Lots of chips etc.. Don't want to deal with shipping them back to GrimmSpeed though, so .

New plates (Baltimore Orioles plates, hooray!). Turns out the hardware from the dealership is too long and if you change out your plates without having license plate frame to be a buffer, the plastic inserts start turning about 4/5ths of the way in.

So, had to rip all the plastic paneling off the rear hatch interior and hold the insert with a set of vice grips to get the screw out. Fun times were had by all involved.

Did a coffee cup mod of sorts. The coolant overflow reservoir that came with my intercooler snapped off at the mounting tab while I was driving today, and it probably fell into a creek. I zip-tied a coffee mug in place instead.

Damn man, glad you are okay. That looks pretty serious. You might need some paint, doesn't look like some of that will buff out.

Was it like falling into a cloud? That's what bmw owners tell me getting into an accident feels like in their car.

I literally laughed because I've used my head so many time to hold something. Hah, nice work!

Discovered today that if you have a headlight relay go out and DRLs disabled, your DRL relay will have problems leading to no ground and thus no headlights. Cool. Thank you USPS for delaying my new relays by one week now

well monday i replaced my grimmspeed thermostat with a replacement, because this was the old one:

then instead of the car running too cool, i got the opposite reaction where the water temp tries to shoot up to "H" when starting from a stop or any low gear. it's acting REALLY messed up, but it wasnt doing that the day i installed it -it was working perfectly that day.

i have a CX racing dual core aluminum radiator and silicone hoses with the grimmspeed thermostat. should i just go get a stock one put in?? this car is supposed to be sold this saturday and i dont want to screw over the buyer with a car thats prone to overheat.

when i installed the new tstat i burped it correctly and everything, but there still seems to be air getting in the system from somewhere?? i have no idea what else could be replaced on that car, and i had to burp air from the expansion tank at least twice this morning. wtfffffffffff
