Default The Ultimate <$3000 beater

I think this will be a fun thread that can live for a few days and die into the history of AKIC...

I just got my RS back from being down almost two weeks and had been rocking a 91 Honda Civic around 4 door 5 spd, 4 injector swap.

Anyways here's the bit...What would your ultimate <$3000 (for those that didn't pass algebra < is less than) car/truck be. Hasta be NADA under $3000 not just a 2002 WRX with a smashed quarter.

So be crafty here

hands down for me...have a street version of my circle track car in high school...1991 Geo Storm GSI. They never lasted in the Midwest due to salt, but still see a bunch up here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geo_Storm
I'd love to one day find a Isuzu Impulse RS, but it's basically impossible with only 600 of them made and everyone of them being tossed aside because there isn't any parts for them.

I'll be into my 2-door swapped for < $3000 when the time comes.

Hell, all the cars I own now are all sub $3000. I can't afford to have a new car payment, so I just buy beaters and keep them running.

Sounds fun, however for clarifications on the NADA price, which value shall we use, Average retail? (just so everyone is playing by the same rules)

Granted Isuzu pulled out of the consumer vehicle market, but was not the generation of Impulse you mentioned mroe or less a joint venture with GM? IE the Storm/Impulse brethern? (tho the RS was AWD IIRC, and Turbo)

My ultimate sub $3000 car choices would be as follows:
- 1989 Mitsubishi Starion ESI-R
- 1985 RX7 GSL-SE
- 1989 Isuzu Impulse Turbo (with "Handling by Lotus")

The Impulse RS was a glorified storm, AWD, Turbo in a 2300lb car

Going with the old body style Impulse I see

Some light reading, for those who have forgotten such a great mini truck company

Randomness thought here as I just remembered them back in the day. You talking the GT or LX 5.0? I personally always thought the LX 5.0s looked better than the GTs. But the "cool kids" had the GTs.

There's a video of a Justy with a full WRX conversion street racing on youtube, which I can't find anymore, beating high-end performance cars with ease.
