Default Turbo Baja Help

My mom is looking at getting a Turbo Baja.

I have a few questions though.

First, she want's a locking, hard tonneau for the rear. Does anyone make one of these? Can you point me in the right direction?

Second, several auto-reviewers say that the reliability of the Baja is sub-par. Does anyone know why?

It's narrowed down between the Turbo Baja, the Turbo Forester (but interior noise on the forester is disturbing), Outback Sedan (VDC and L.L.Bean editions), and the Volkswagen Passat 4-motion GLX (V6).

Any insight on the above choices is appreciated.

Call the dealership...last I heard they were making a hardtop for the Baja as an option. Not sure if they have it available already.

Snugtop hard cover is featured in 04 Baja brochure. Your dealer should be able to get one...

As to reliability, read some messages on this board that discuss Consumer Report ratings and JD Powers. Is the interior noise for FXT that bad? I noticed Baja Turbo is pretty quiet compared to my old Impreza (but Imp is pretty noisy, so anything is an improvement, I guess). I can listen to NPR (am wave, of course...) at 13 (I needed to turn it up to 20 on highway with my old Imp).

Even though I only have about 300 miles on my Baja T, I'm very happy with my purchase so far. Baja stands out in your choices if you are a Home Depot kind of folks.

1) Do you know if the snug-top is lockable? The dealer didn't have 04 Baja brochures. If it locks, then it turns the BajaT into a very viable option.

2) All the consumer report books just said they are unreliable, but they didn't say why. Just curious if anyone knew anything.

I think the noisy forester they drove was a fluke, we drove one the other day and it was acceptable for a station wagon. Better than I was expecting.

3) We are definately the home-depot folks. Well, my dad is. He has an X-Terra (which actually has a purpose as an SUV), and we have a truck too that regularly see's project days of building something or another.

I need some convincing material soon! She is starting to look at Honda Elements and Isuzu Axioms!

answers that I know and best that I can:
1) Yes, they can even have it be keyless entry and I bet that it can be added to the security system.

2) not sure why that said that because it is basically a legacy or outback with a bed. I think that they tend to say that because they don't know how to make up their minds weather or not they like it.

3) I am definatally a home-depot persone and so is my wife. We are definatally getting a Baja Turbo ASAP (when I can afford it in a couple of months). We also have a '98 forester that is currently our main car and my '90 legacy sedan is getting traded in. We plan on lots of trips to the hardware store and the other places and that bed will get a real work out.

If that's true, then there might soon be a turbo baja in the garage

Cool Baja Turbo Help

Tell mom to go for it.This is my 2nd Baja, the only reason for getting rid of the first one was to get the Turbo and a auto tranny instead of the stick.I've been driving sticks all my life.
