I am in the middle of the MOD. It really isn't that hard if you take your time. If you want LED's then go to LEDLight.com. For the cluster bulbs use # 74. 74's are used in the HVAC controls also. Really all you need to search for are V-2 shaped bulbs. V-2 refers to the bulb twist lock holder. When buying LED's for the cluster, make sure the viewing angle is 180 degrees or more. This will give equally distributed light.

Can you post the numbers for all the bulbs??
I would do this asap w/ the bulb numbers for the cluster and hvac. Is there any soldering required? |

Cool so you can just use LED's? I have a bunch of bright blue LED's and wanted to do this with those LED's instead of buying bulbs. I'm an LED whore though. I put LED's in everything lol

just did this today, and it turned out great, i just removed the green bulb covers, then dipped the LED's in "TESTORS" red model paint, it turned out a very nice deep red color, i plan on doing the keyring tomorrow, and then the gauge cluster sometime in the near future

This is a super old thread and I'm not sure if people still follow this but has anyone tried just removing the green covers over the bulbs and reassembling? I haven't ordered the lamp covers yet, but I think I might try this just to see how it looks. I might stay with the white color if it works/looks good. PM me if you've tried this before...

As I was waiting for my lamp covers I removed the green covers to see what it would look like with no covers installed. The result was not something I'd want to keep permenantly. It was a yellowish/orangish color. After getting my lamp covers in two days ago (both blue and red) I installed one blue cover per bulb. The result was a really dull teal. The small .12 size red covers were on back order so I wanted to go with blue first. Last night I put red covers on everything with a .2 size bulb. The gauges look good and the HVAC looks even better. Now I'm just waiting to do the radio. Great write-up! =)

Problem with the swap
Well im not quite sure its the swap the problem, but the coincidence is undeniable. I swapped the covers on my LED bulbs last night for the HVAC and the cigarette lighter yesterday with red (two on each to get the full red color). It looks great but when i got in my car this morning my speakers are playing SUPER quiet, even on max volume it is barely audible. i can hear the music but obv at that setting it is also very staticy. i dont know if i have blown a speaker or? if that were the case wouldnt i not hear any sound at all? any ideas as what i could have done? i dont see how switching the lights would effect this, especially given the lights are working perfect. I removed to head unit to get to the bulbs but i didn't have to unplug anything in this process
Thanks. |

I put in one red cover per bulb on MY02's HVAC, but the result is more like pink when I turn the dimmer on all the way(brightest) compare to my STI cluster, then I turned it down to the middle and it get more red cuz the light is dimmer, but still not true red like the cluster. Should I put one more cover to each bulb? Guys have any links that sell LED replacement? I got two that I bought from superbrightled.com, but the light sockets are a bit small, it didn't lock in place, so I used the cover instead.

I went to the links for the condom covers and the picture they show for them doesn't cover the whole bulb it's really just for wrapping the wire.. am I looking at the wrong thing? also where in the burbs are you? I'm in barrington!
Thanks, Lowell |
