Sokie Tech hood dampers
Ok, so I ordered a set of the Sokie Tech carbon fiber hood dampers listed on eBay. They are $80.00 shipped from Tawain. I have a lot of carbon accents on the car, and wanted to maintain the theme. These were the cheapest I could find anywhere.
Anyway, They took about a month to receive because there was a problem in customs. The shipping dept. didn't fill out the label correctly. Apparently they didn't disclose the claimed value on the shipping label, and the dampers were returned. So, I had to wait an additional 2 weeks for them to arrive. But they came very well pakaged. The kit is complete with all required hardware included. The carbon weave is very nice, even, and tight. I did order mine without the decal to ensure a cleaner look. They did come with a small warning label stating not to incinerate, open, contents under pressure, blah blah blah. It's just a small sticker that was very easily peeled off. The install is very straight forward. Takes probably 5-6 minutes total. The pivoting ends came greased so that movement is smooth and precise. The actual smoothness of operation is not quite on par with the set of Vision hood dampers I have on my Integra, but then again I paid well over a hundred dollars for those. The dampers are very strong. I would not recommend these for a carbon or fiberglass hood. I also would not let go of the hood while raising it, as it seems the force could possibly damage something. Overall I would say if you want hood dampers in carbon fiber, buy these. I'll post some pics of the dampers installed when I get home later this evening.

I'm guessing because the carbon hoods are lighter. These dampers are valved for the weight of the stock hoods.
You could try contacting them. They are on eBay. Their customer service was great in replying to all the inquiries I had. http://stores.ebay.com/G-Force-Dynamic-Performance |

I've inquired about dampers for the carbon or fiberglass light weight hoods. They do not offer them at this time for a Subaru application.
Sorry guys. |

I've had 2 cf hoods and still have my oem hood as well and the weight difference isn't going to impact these hood dampers. |

Maybe is has to do with the structural aspect of the carbon/fiberglass?
Like I said above, the dampers are very strong and I wouldn't let go of the hood when ever it's being raised. That could be the only possible situation where these things would damage the carbon hoods. If you let go of it the dampers would probably rip the carbon apart from the force. I have seen other dampers though specifically for carbon hoods. |

Im going to get a set as soon as i get money. So tired of working around the stock rod to support the hood, it scare's me when it is kind of windy outside. At times sounds like the hood is going to fall on me.

just got mine today, only took a week to get here. i'll be installing tonight when i get home from work.
*i just put them on and noticed a tiny tiny hairline slice from where the lip of the top gold piece baaaarely touched the fender. being that we can only use one bolt to fasten it to the hood, the bracket sliiiiightly shifts upon first time closing the hood, thus causing mine to baaaaarely touch the fender. not a big deal by any means, and it closes/opens just fine. You can still find these for sale on ebay. I found them (carbon fiber) for $80 or make an offer.
The seller declined an offer of $60 but got the insta-accept for $75. They came packed pretty good... placed in hard foam spacers as to not touch eachother and roll around. Shipping to Northern California took 12 days. Overall quality seems pretty damn good. |

I highly doubt that you find the ball joint studs and the ball joint mounting plates at a hardware store... they look like they were specifically made for this application.
If you dont want to spend as much I think the regular black or silver ones are only $50 shipped. I am pretty handy and this is one thing that I cant imagine trying to make myself... and getting it right the first or even fifth time. The clearances are perfect, no touching at all and the action is super smooth. |

Update
Just to update, I've had mine installed for over 2 years now.
No problems what so ever to report. No rust. Movement is still super smooth. The finish is still like new. I have to say though, that my car is garaged. However, it does sit outside at the local park n ride 5 days a week, through some pretty nasty winter weather. A response to anyone that is questioning using with a fiberglass or carbon hood, I really think it has to do with how the dampers open. If you're not holding onto the hood while you raise it, it will slam up. I imagine that could damage your expensive carbon/fiberglass hood. That's just my guess on the matter though. I'm still very happy with my purchase, and still recommend these to anyone looking for affordable hood dampers with a carbon fiber finish. |

After reading all the positive reviews in here I've decided to try them out myself so I went and got the Carbon Fiber version installed last week and I must say that this was $80 well spent as it did not disappoint. This has been one of my better mods I have done to my car because of the outstanding cost effectiveness of the product and I would definitely recommend Sokie Tech to anyone else whom is considering installing hood dampers to their own rides in the near future.

UPDATE: Installation was pretty easy. Only got snagged up on a couple of things.
1) The metal clip inside one of the ball joints was out of place. nothing a screw driver couldnt fix. 2) putting back the safety pin back in was a lil pain in the ass but not terribly difficult. Overall, i am very pleased with the product. I really like that its not permanent. i had purchased a Redline hood damper set and i didnt like that i had to rivet them in the fender. There is more room to work on the engine and the hood goes higher then the stock hood prop. (i figured out how to take out the hood prop.) Last edited by Daddy_Digital; 11-19-2011 at 11:58 AM. |
