Default JDM STi spring/struts vs STi Tarmac spring/struts

So far I've narrowed it down to these two and they're about $500 apart on rallispec. I'd do the Tarmac's since it seems like a good track package and I don't want to deal with the cost/other issues assiociated with coil-overs. I just wanted to know if they're "livable" for daily driving? The description says they border that, but I was hoping to get some first hand feedback. Thanks.

Yes, I did a search didn't find anything close enough after the first 5-6 pages

the 'tarmac' springs are the new arai tuned tarmac springs which have a very aggressive spring rate, you would need a good dampening strut to house those, i have toyed with the idea of setting those up with a set of koni inserts, i have yet to find an affordable strut that will handle that, then again thats all paperwork guestimating. if your going to try it, try them with a set of red sti struts, cause i can guarantee that even the jdm pink springs will feel floaty on the stock wrx struts.

Hrm, I'm looking at rallispec's site and it looks like there are the following struts and springs:

Struts:
-STi struts (only sold with sti pink spring as a package)
-STi "tarmac" struts Gymkhana (cheaper, non-adjustable)
-STi "tarmac" struts tuned by aria

Springs:
-STi
-STi tarmac

Obviously I'll just call rallispec if it's a product question, I was just looking from feedback from members . . .

i believe the first set of 'tarmac' struts are for the older GC8 series, i have heard they can be used on the GD series, someone want to chime in on this? and the second set of tarmac struts are the aformentioned prefered struts for the tarmac springs a'la "arai tuned"

yes please chime in again and tell us more regarding what rallispec says about this.

The Gymkhana strut/spring set is solely for the 1993-2001 Impreza.

Not sure about the others, but those are probably what you want.

the Gymkhana setup is for the GC only....dont use em on a WRX of any year

For the Arai springs, best bet is the matching struts:

info on springs is here: http://z1auto.com/prodmore.asp?model...ing&prodid=234

struts: not on our site, but easy to get as well

I've used the Arai's on one car so far with the matching Arai struts....definitely firm, but livable for the street......would be really nice for a car that sees primarily auto-x and track duty though

have you ever used it on a 2005 sti though? Do you know anything from experience or are you just making this stuff up to sell people? I would like a gymkana setup but only if it fits, do you have a recommendation for a good everyday/track setup for me. Thanks alot bro.,

no I have not used the Gymkhana struts on any GD series car for the strict reason that they are not offered for the GD. I am the last person to mix and match struts and springs with these cars, especially when STi themselves spent the time to create specific strut and spring combos for each chassis car. Do they fit? Sure with the right rear mounts they will. Are the right? Not even close. I dont need to make anything up to sell anything...I am one of the longest standing members on this board (as a personal member)

When you say everyday/track setup, its really 2 totally different environments. What kind of track? What kind of tires? How much comfort and you willing to give up for grip? What sort of budget?

very good info. thank you. i have heard of many vendors sell parts but then not deliver them.

yes mabye i will stick with my sti suspension for now and then think about a track setup later, as i can only afford jdm sti struts/springs...but i think i want coilovers. thank you again.

what setup do you have on your wrx z1, is it a track car?

we dont own a WRX, but have been dealing with Subaru's since '98, and have used a wide variety of setups on these cars, so have a pretty good handle as to what works and what does not
