Default Rear bumper cut out on 2008+ 5 Door ......

VS mine:

Notice how they trimmed the bumper out on the back of that car. I have the same exhaust as on his car, I am just wondering if anyone out there has ever done anything like this to their car, and if so can you post some photos?
The rear bumper area is one thing I am not really a big fan of on these cars. What other options do I have in cleaning it up?

Yes, thats the first photo I posted in this thread. I am just wondering if anyone else has done it, and if there are any negative side effects to doing this. I mean I am sure I can just buy another bumper part if I really hate it anyways.

Dremel is your friend. Don't even try to fit a 08 sti bumper cover, it wond happen. Search a little bit and you'll find others who used the dremel.

Looks like you're running a front lip. Why not match that with an R205 rear diffuser (or replica).

Side effect is you look like a Ken Block wannabe. I think no one has ever done it for a reason, it doesn't look good to a majority of people. If you think it looks good go for it.

Isn't the fuel tank right there and if you cut that out you will see it? On Block's car I am sure they are running a smaller fuel cell located elsewhere. Just a though.

Your exhaust looks to be sticking WAY out of that bumper.

Yeah I'd have to look at the fuel tank, good thinking there.

As for my exhaust sticking out, it actually only sticks out about 1.5 inches, just looks more because it hangs down so much.

Isn't your exhaust piping actually different than the one pictured? I say don't do it.

Currently on the one installed, but I have one at an exhaust shop getting changed into the one pictured. On the factory one from Crawford, only the passenger side gets any flow so I am getting it evened out like the one on the Ken Block car.

I would say go with the Blacktop Aero diffuser and call it a day.

Also, how did the 2008 WRX get a better looking rear diffuser.

I think I may just have to start playing with my carbon fiber again.

Never seen that, Just saw the single exit one. I think I am more of a fan of single exhausts than double. I think you have helped me decide. I will get that, and not just go for a single tip version of this exhaust.

Appreciate you pointing that out!

How is an exhaust shop making a Y pipe flow evenly?

I don't know of it will be even, but right now it's like a 90/10 flow plot between passenger and drivers side.
I'm sure it will improve that.

Although I think I'm going for a single exhaust now anyways.

This goes for ALL vehicles, if the exhaust splits in the rear somewhere it will flow out more on one side. The really only way to fix it is a "true" dual exhaust, which would mean a lot of work.

I think the whole point of cutting the rear bumper is more of a functionality thing than aesthetics.

Pretty sure the bumper is less prone to ripping off, easier to inspect components, easier access, and it does show off all the nifty bits under the car. Here is the Canadian rally team car...

Actually I like the way OP's car looks, with the diffuser still on. The only problem I see is that with long dual exhausts, the car looks like a wheelbarrow

Haha, I actually do agree. I think it would look great if the diffuser was molded more tightly around them. Try don't stick out much at all, it just looks like it from that angle as you can see around them so well.

Its a bit dated because now i have a 09 wrx spoiler on it too.

I just bought a muffler and center pipe from the STi to do the same... So a question...

The muffler tips look like they hang too low from the bumper. Would it be possible to bend the hanging rods a bit to avoid this? Did you try anything, or did you just install it as it fell in place?

As for the bumper... How did you measure the cuts? Did you remove the bumper? I'm trying to decide whether I should remove the bumper or not. My guess is I would do a better job by removing it, although it'll be a lot easier to leave it on.

Mine's silver also, so your pic just gave me an actual idea of how it'll look on my car. I don't like how low the tips look, so I might have to work around that, but I'll probably replace the tips with bigger ones to better fill the gap...
