COBB AccessPort Stalling!!!
I set up my AP on thursday last week, it is v1.5 firmware, and v1.19 stage 1, 93oct map. The car was running fine until fri. night when stopping at a light, the car died, I didn't even notice until I had no steering. Now I did try to search for a result and obviously I know COBB has tried to addres the issue. Does anyone have any recent suggestions? I don't really want to perform the firmware update to v1.6 if things will be worse. Also, at the moment can I download map v1.20 for stage 1 93oct to run with the v1.5 AP or do I need to d/l v1.6 to run these new maps? Is this new map also supposed to cure the stalling issues or rather an unclear solution. It's a little frustrating as my car stalled again tonight. All help appreciated.
Thanks

The new 1.6v manger software does not require you to revert to stock, if your on 1.5v then you just install 1.6
You should be running map 1.22 or 1.23 to fix the stalling problem |

Where do I get v1.22 or v1.23, for stage 1 93oct. I don't see it on the COBB website. The latest one that they have is v1.20 for my stage. I just downloaded v1.20 and I guess I will put this base map on my car, to see if the stalling is fixed. I don't really want to upgrade the AP firmware is what I meant though.
Thanks for your help though. |

Well since you already have 1.5 the update in firmware is just a simple download. So it takes no time at all to do, but whatever floats your boat
I didn't realize that your on stg 1, then yes 1.2 is the most resent map. If your still having a stall problem, load the STX map as your base and the regular Stg 1 93 map as your realitme Try it out and see what happens, but 1.2 should have the fix |

the new 1.22 and 1.23 are stage two maps (this versioning is confusing).
The 1.20 stg 1 map has a "fix" that changes the CL/OL delay so it is not shortened while the car is warming up. This fix didn't work for the majority of AP users with the problem. There is a beta 1.21 stage 1 map with a new test solution for the stalling problem in one of the threads on Cobb's site in the Accessport Forum. I don't think Trey stated what was changed in that map, but trying that one is probably your best bet. |

I was using COBB AP Stage 2 previously, I sold my AP then a few months later had my car tuned by Jarrad from PDXTuning, then he plugged in my ecu was telling him my car was an AUTOMATIC, not telling how much power was being robbed after I reverted to stock. I have my doubts about COBB now.

thanks for all the input guys. I went ahead today and loaded v1.20 into the base map with the same map on realtime. I tested the boost and unfortunately not pleased yet. Of course it's too early to tell if stall still occurs or not, but so far the results with this new map compared to v1.19 are not great. The boost seems to be ~2 psi. below the v1.19 map only at 13psi max in 2nd or 3rd gears when I was getting ~14.8psi on the other map. Now I know it does take some time for the car to learn to get adjusted but do you guys think the boost will stabilize again to ~15psi? Thanks!

/\/\do not load the same realtime stage map on TOP of the base map it is not necessary and has been known to cause problems. The realtime function is reserved for when You want something different on top of base (like econo or anti-theft). Reset your ECU to clean off that realtime map and let it learn.

oh ok I was not aware of the realtime problem, thanks. I will then reset the ecu and see the difference immediately, if any and then of course after some more learning time. Should I reset ECU with AP feature then, or just disconnect the battery and try it that way?sorry for all the questions.

Do you have more info about loading a realtime map over the base map and the problems it causes?
I was under the impression it was harmless. If it's true that it causes problems, then that's a really big deal. Thanks, Mike |

well, on my way home today car seemed to run a lot better, I still need to take some psi measurements tomorrow, hopefully boost has increased. Anyone have more reasons to the stalls, other than the OL/CL time changes? I will post results after a couple days of running this new map and measurements of course.

I just flashed the stage 1 v1.21 beta base map tonight on my 2004 (09/2003 production) WRX Sedan 5MT. So far so good...even with 91 octane California gas!
Get it HERE UPDATE: 1 stall this morning (04/13/2005) driving to work. I've flashed the v1.20 base map back and will just keep blipping the gas when I'm braking or before I shift into neutral when coasting until the problem gets fixed. stall with beta map is not very good news. I am still runnning v1.20 map, have not checked boost yet, perhaps today I will try again. In the meantime, would added load to the engine such as A/C, etc... increase the stall chances?

AFAIK, the reset feature on the AP and disconnecting the neg battery term is the same.
There was at least a couple threads where people's problems ceased when they got rid of running the RT when it was the same as the Base (it was a vf34/30 problem i believe). Just don't do it. If you're running a realtime you want to get rid of, just reset the ECU, don't reload the same base as RT. In theory it should be harmless, but other circumstances have proven otherwise. |

UPDATE - well as it turned out boost measured at only 12.5psi max, therefore I reset the ecu with the AP, so now no realtime maps are loaded. Right away I had 14psi, I will hopefully have 15psi shortly. This is still on the new 1.20 map.
Thanks for the info hondaeater. |

After I unmarried my AP, I am still having stalling issues. Apparently, reverting to stock only flashes a Cobb "stock" map back to your ECU. I am stuck with a stalling car now...

I've got to say that Cobb has not handled this stalling problem with 04/05's well at all. A few days ago they deleted a 10-plus page thread on their site about the stalling problems, saying it "was hurting sales." Well, duh!
I was also very non-plussed to learn that, when I decide to remove my AP from my 03, the map I will be left with will not be the one it overwrote! (Puts a 4EAT map back on over the original!) That's just wrong. All in all, I'm still a fan of Cobb - planning Stage Two very soon, and will probably not drive the car in stock mode anyway ever again, maybe even sell it to the next guy with the AP, so maybe not such an issue for me, but gotta say if I had an 04 or an 05, I would have to think long and hard about getting an AP for it. Dave04WRX is an AccessPort user, and does not work for cobb. On the Cobb forum, a user can delete an entire thread if they made the initial post. Personally I think it should he should have left it as is, but Cobb didn't have anything to do with deleting it. Of course if you want to cry conspiracy go ahead. You're entitled to your opinion. |

I stand corrected (about who deleted the thread). Still there was a lot of good info in that thread that is now vapor... Maybe the originator of such a thread should only be able to delete their own messages?
Regardless, my other points stand and I stand by them: I still use AP and will continue to do so, although there are some "issues" I have with the product; and if I had an 04+ I'd probably look for somebody else's engine management. |

Guilty as charged. Now that there is a lynch mob after my ass, I think I shouldn't have deleted the thread. LOL. The purpose of my thread was to bring awareness to a problem not serve as a petition. After it had done its job and was bumped to the bottom of the page, I thought it was ok for it to go. I felt bad having my name at the top of a 15 page complaint thread after how kind Cobb was to me in our contacts.

Car stalled again today, very humid conditions, coming up to a stoplight. This is with v1.20 map stg1 93 oct. this is the first stall with this map, after 5 days. I will probably just get stage 2 soon, hopefully those new maps should be ok.

Jst so you know, my '04 is running fine with the Stage2 93 oct v1.21. I can notice it "dip" in RPMs once in a while but no stalling nightmares like you say. Are you sure you are the majority having issues? I have not seen heat like you have so far... hmmm.

Intestering...I had a few stalls with the Stage 2 map, however, it was only when it was cold out. I haven't seen it since the temps have gotten above freezing. A few times it happened when the car was at cold idle and once, it happened with the car fully warmed up.
Very odd. |

I haven't had any stalling issues with the new maps, though I have noticed that the rpms drop low in some cases (slightly below idle). I've only had one weird stall since the new updates.
