Hi there, thanks for your interest in the AccessPORT! The 2007 STi does require an AP-SUB-002 model. The AP-SUB-003 part number is for CAN-based vehicles like the 08+ WRX/STi.

Please let me know if I can be of assistance in any other way

Regards,
Lance

Hey Lance, by CAN-based, what do you mean exactly? I just picked up a AP from a vendor here on the forums and it's for a 2011 wrx hatch and it's also ap-sub-003 so is it the correct ap model for my car?

CAN is the communications protocol used. Yep, the AP-SUB-003 is the correct model for the 2011 WRX. Thanks for the purchase and congrats! I'm confident you'll love our OTS maps for that car

Best regards,
Lance

So there is no way to change the firmware from 003>002 or 002>003?

What a let down. My 002 cord sucks so bad I can't even tune my car because it loses siganl all the time

The cable change is not related to the part number (002 vs. 003).

It sounds like you have older "V2" hardware. The thicker OBD-II cable you are referring to is part of our "V2b" design, which is currently used for all AccessPORTs. You will find both V2's and V2B's out in the wild, depending on the time of purchase.

We can probably help you out with the connectivity issues; I apologize that you are having problems! Please give our customer service guys a call at 866-922-3059 and they can take you though some trouble-shooting steps as well as possibly get your dongle upgraded; some of the very early V2 dongles were prone to connectivity issues, an issue that has been addressed.

Best regards,
Lance
